It has good information and is fine to buy used because its last update was in the 80’s. If you are in the business world this is the book that really started the self-help and motivation craze we have today. It is one of those books that is old-school and if you’re in public speaking or training you had better have this in your knowledge bank because this is mandatory reading for many old-school sales offices. This writing style is a bit dusty because it has never been updated into toady’s crazy format of sound-bite reading. A very useful book! The chapters are short but powerful. I think everyone can benefit from reading this book because the concepts are so simple, yet often unused. One example: I teach violin, and I had a student whose tone was just awful, yet she thought she was a good player and wouldn't listen to my recommendations on how to improve her tone. I was getting so frustrated with her attitude, then a friend suggested "think about what she wants" (from the book), as the incentive, instead of "you need to do what I say". I realized what she wanted is for people to think she's an amazing player. So the next lesson, I told her, "I've been thinking, and I believe the way for you to really step up your playing to the next level and make people say "wow!" is if you can improve your tone." You should have seen her face light up. No joke! We spent the entire next two lessons working on tone, and she was eager to listen to everything I had to say. I was shocked, honestly, but I'm sold! I can't wait to try applying some of the other techniques in the book!Read full review
