Solved all my problems with the game by getting a computer with a good graphics card & now it's 1 of my favorite racing games...a steering wheel system is a must also ! I'm not gonna tell ya it was easy but got it straighten out manufacture & feel it was worth it ,now a great game for me .

NFS Shift has great graphics, cool tracks, and nice cars. So what's the issue? The controls are HORRIBLE!!! Every single car has the worst oversteer I've ever come across. It makes GTA 4's cars look like they have grip. I know its supposed to be a simulator but this is just ridiculous. Honesty, if the oversteer wasn't so bad (Yes I tuned it to try to combat oversteer. Worked but not enough) the game would be fun. I heard that NFS Shift 2 is worse. Would only recommend this game to people who are completing their NFS collection. EDIT: After getting a racing wheel, it is much better. Although I shouldn't need a $250 add-on to have fun so I'm only brining it up by 1 star.

Just to make it clear this review is for the PC version. I am guessing that the console versions probably do not have the issues the PC version has. Like: Fun and realistic at the same time. A large variety of cars and tracks. Lots of adjustments to controls. Love the sounds. Dislike: Crashes a lot. I might get 2 or 3 races in then crash. The game also will get stuck while loading up a race. You don't know right away that it is stuck because it does take a while to load a race. I bought this because the price was reasonable (on Ebay) and I like good driving/simulation games. I may have to buy the PS3 version because this version is quite frustrating.
The Need for speed franchise is exceptional, they have had the most advanced car games and have always been the first to introduce improvement, but they excel in races in cities, this title is like the Pro-Street title, it is not a game that is played in non-professional environement; it is a good car race title but it is not an "in-city" live race or chase title, which they are known for, so this title and the pro-street one are kind of dull compared to the other need for speed games. But there are, as always, improvements. Amongst those, I especially appreciate the come-back of the dashboard and I like the damage options. I hopoe Time will tell but I will like it more than pro-street which was the first NFS title that put me off (almost made me throw up in view of my expectations of this franchise). Hence why I put average although I have always expected that I would always put an 'Excellent' on games from this very good franchise. But It could go up if I get to take a liking to the inovations.Read full review
Overall, it's a pretty good game. My current computer isn't quite up to the task of running it smoothly, but I'm going to add graphics to my HTPC to remedy that. The game's physics are certainly unlike any other. Whether or not that's a bad thing is yet to be determined. My first race was absolutely horrid. The throttle has much more to do with efficient racing than in any other game I've played. I'm pleased with my purchase though, great game.
