I'm a location audio mixer and I absolutely love this mic. I've worked with the Sennheiser 416, Audio Technica, Schoeps, and various other mics. Currently the Sennheiser 416 is still the industry standard but I gotta say, the Rode NTG-3 is damn near equal to it. In my opinion it's even better. It has a smoother off axis roll off and I feel that the mic sounds a bit warmer, its a bit more pleasing to my ear. Also, it has exceptional range so that I don't have to turn the gain way up. On top of all that, it looks great and comes with a fantastic aluminum tube for storage. I'd probably be able to drop it off 2 stories without it breaking. This is a fantastic mic for any mixer to have in their arsenal. For 700 bucks, you just cant beat it unless you wanna spend 2 grand for a mic.
Rode makes great products! The Rode NTG3 sounds great when i'm using it. Looking forward to using it to make short films soon.

I use this for voiceover work. It has many other applications, but I find this to be a great tool. It sounds better (and for about half the price) than my Sennheiser MKH-416. Bargain price, impeccable sound a 10-year warranty from Rode. That's a package that's tough to beat.
I use this product for video recording as well as for amplifying and recording a drum-set. It is important to get a clear sound, and with the NTG-3, you are basically assured to have quality/professional sound. I didn't mind the price because I was buying quality.
You can get great results from the RODE NTG3B but when used for voice it may be a bit bassey or boomy so you may need a high pass/low cut filter for best performance.

This is the best, reasonably-priced shotgun mic I’ve had the pleasure to use. Brilliant and warm. I pair/mix it with a Sennheiser lav mic for delicious interview audio.

Great mic, AWESOME construction, although keep in mind that it is phantom powered, so it drains the battery on my Tascam DR-100 pretty quickly. And keep it as close to the subject as possible. More than several feet away and your subject won't be much louder than the background, and you'll get more noise from the gain.
Frikkin' awesome mic! If you have remorse that you cannot afford the 416, don't feel bad about getting this instead at all! Best cost/performance professional shotgun mic out there.
