Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Strings
You bought this mandolin-guitar so that you can sound like a mandolin player without having to learn one. OK, that's cool. But when was the last time you played a SUPER-LIGHT string set with .008 on the high E? I break .008s because I bend on .009s and normally play on .010-.013 sets on various instruments. So NO, I don't recommend this set or this mandolin. The ONLY reason for buying this set is to keep the instrument in stock condition so you can resell it when you realize you can't use a heavier gauge set. What happens if you were to increase the string gauges? Chances are you'll crack the top of the mandolin and then need to pay someone $200-300 to fix it. OR... you spend $100-300 to put better components on this mandolin and reinforce the top to handle the heavier gague. Fortunately for me I was able to do the mods and now I can use .009-.042 on it. The top sags a bit, but it hasn't cracked after 2 months. And soon I'm replacing the stock Artec/Shadow pickup with a $200 Fishman archtop pickup and a preamp control. In short, if you're not handy with cutting, soldering and sandpapering, skip this instrument and save your time and money. Buy the $900 mandolin instead and you'll be happier for it.Read full review
