I got this used so im not sure how much help this one is. ive used several garmin gps units over the years and just got this for my daughter. powered it up and its working fine. i need to add the maps, which i do have. being a garmin is golden, so im not expecting much to go wrong with this. they are reliable and made for the elements, and it will survive the outdoors better than any cell phone anyway....

The unit came with no base map so its really hard to tell where you are. The date that the unit lock onto from satellite is wrong, and their is no way to change it, which isn't a huge deal. But it is disappointing. So at this point, it is a rather expensive compass. I wish it came with a cable so that you could possibly add a map? I would not recommend this at this moment.

Pro - Perfect price for this unit. It does simple navigation under favorable circumstances. It doesn't promise more. Imagine 2006 technology done well. Cons - Long time acquiring satellites, needs clear view if sky. Not built for wilderness performance.

I mostly use these as cheap bike trip and overall odometers, do not use them for geo caching or anything like that, the cord you get with it requires a serial receptor to upload maps if that is your thing, nice basic hiking unit that will provide you with location, compass ...etc

Very difficult to learn to use. Also difficult to read small font readouts ... even when backlit. Backlight works for only a few seconds. I know it's a battery saving process. But it's very irritating when trying to learn to use the system. Finally gave up. Mine is now consigned to the top shelf of the closet. MIGHT dig it out the next time I take my kayak into open water.

This GPS is very easy to use and the screem visibility is better than some of the newer Etrex models. I have used one for years and recommend it. This purchase was to replace my old one which "disappeared".

I had one of these years ago and I loved it. I had it on my ultralight and the vibration finally killed it. I didn’t think that I would ever find another new one at this price.

Took a bit longer to operate but I had garmin etrex before this has way more features.

I've used this garmin many times, and never had an issue. Great for trail and off road use! I bought this one model because of the price and functionality of the unit. Positives are battery life, size, durability and water resistance. Batteries last about 12 hours. Perfect hand held size with no obnoxious antenna. I've dropped it many times, the rubber molding is excellent shock protection. Also, it has been in the river in my pocket. It came out unscathed and "ready to navigate." My only complaint is the latch for the battery door is difficult to operate when your fingers are cold. Which is typically when you want things to work easily and quickly. A GREAT BUY, if you can get it for $50-60 (shipped).
This wraa etrex has no programming data that's available on line ans incapable of down loading any current Garman data. This is from Garman technical division. I am considering my options. Don't was t your money on any model that won't show highways and streets if you need that data. It is a good compass I will show way point if hiking that's all other then altimeter it's good for period!
