Ian McShane starred in wholesome family fare before he became a weathered, expletive-drawling character on HBO's DEADWOOD. LOVEJOY is a case in point--this British TV show stars McShane as an antiques dealer who pursues a sideline career as an amateur detective. McShane's titular character spends most of the show trading in antiques, looking for women to seduce, and cracking crimes. Oh happiness!
Nothing beats Lovejoy. If you like Ian McShane, this is the ticket. TV Lovejoy is a little more civilized than the literary version, and he's a delight. Excellent supporting cast, madcap capers, great humor. And I find myself on art-buying sprees after watching this series. (Nothing old or valuable, but I recognize the impulse from which it comes. )

seaso's 1 - 4 re much better
It's not as good as the 1st 4 or 5 seasons. I miss Lady Jane not being in this season. Kind of an odd bring over with the blonde that used to be Lovejoy's "rival;" Bummer that Eric is out too. Tinker has pretty much stayed the same but Lovejoy himself seems somewhat different. Maybe it's just me. Cheaper than cable though Lol.
