The Intel Quad-Core 3.16 GHz processor is a 12 megabyte (MB) cache central microprocessor. Its 3.16 GHz quad-core processing is enhanced with a front-side bus (FSB) speed of 1333 MHz. The Intel Xeon X5460 has four threads, and a 12 MB L2 cache. The Intel Quad-Core 3.16 GHz processor is a 64-bit CPU which contains several brand-specific features, including Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, Virtualization Technology (VT-x), and Enhanced SpeedStep Technology. It also features demand-based switching, thermal monitoring, BitLocker, and Intel VT-x with Extended Page Tables (EPT). Users concerned with compatibility should note that the Intel Xeon X5460 was launched in the fourth quarter of 2007. This central microprocessor has a bus-to-core ratio of 9.5. This means that the external (bus) clock cycles nine times for every five internal CPU clock cycles. It follows from this that the Intel X5460 handles more processing capacity than those demanded by plug-in peripherals. Great little gaming chip!
This is a true Quad Core Processor with a clock speed of 3.16GHZ with 12MB of L2 Cache. Pair this with a decent graphics card and you can have a low price gaming machine - for less than $550AUD shipped (this includes a gtx 970 :O), if you're good enough at shopping! You will have to use an inexpensive adapter as well as slightly modifying your LGA775 motherboard to fit this CPU - but after that and a quality aftermarket cooler (The stock cooler hit 95*C while gaming but didn't thermal throttle from what i can tell?) you will be able to overclock this!
