Vera, the female Columbo
The fantastic British actress Brenda Blethyn plays Vera Stanhope, a fictional character from the books by Ann Cleeves, and she does a great job recreating the written character as a bit sloppy, overweight, clumsy & sarcastic, although in the books she is thinking the sarcastic remarks but in the series Vera is outspoken. She is usually dressed in a raincoat, galoshes & floppy hat, and her questioning style begs comparison to Peter Falk's Columbo, for although she doesn't seem to be on the ball, she always solves the murder mystery. She has a male partner, as well as a few police colleagues in her office that she banters with very entertainingly. This Season 7 has just four episodes on two DVDs, and it is in Region 2 from the U.K. so will not play on American DVD players, you need the multi-region type.

Ridiculously short
This season (?) of Vera was as entertaining as ever but 4 episodes ? Vera is an outstanding production with quality actors but calling it a season when it has only 4 episodes is just wrong. I will buy it again and again but I won't call it a good value.

Ever entertaining value.
Vera never fails to be good crime value. I just love Vera's attitude to the job. She gets things done her way. The whole series is excellent and I do hope there are more series' to come.
