  • Still a good value.

While these hubs are a few years old, they are a good value and can give years of service. Thus is NOT a router, and you would not want to connect it direct to a cable modem. What a hub is good for is to allow more devices to be connected to the router. Most routers have 5 or 5 ports. I use my hub to connect two computers in a separate room from the router and only use one long cable. The router and cable mode are in the living room of my apartment (the only place they can be installed). So my room mate and I must use long cables to connect the computers in our bedrooms. I want to have a desktop and a laptop connected at the same time without using Wi-Fi, so the hub is the way to go. There are only 11 Wi-Fi channels, and in the apartment complex here there are many more than 11 people using Wi-Fi. Therefore there is a lot of interference on all 11 channels. Wired connections are always faster than Wi-Fi, and with all the interfering signals here, Wi-Fi is even slower.

  • Great for use with Wireshark for IT

Sometimes you just need to see the traffic. These old hubs are great because all traffic is broadcast on all ports.

  • Linksys false advertising....this is a switch not a hub

Works great as a switch...... However.... it claims to be a hub. It functions as a switch not as a hub will not be useful if your intention was to use it as a hub for wire-shark or some other security appliance/sniffer.
