...and in my own living room, no less. Back in the day, this series was on at an hour that I was only able to enjoy on rare days off. Now I can bring it to my TV screen at any time I choose to. If you appreciate the imagination of Gene Roddenberry and his incredible TV production teams, then this is a series that you want in your media library. Not all of the characters are politically correct (or even believable); but you can experience that just by walking out of your own front door on any given morning. What sets all of the Star Trek phenomena apart is their ability to take contemporary issues into the future and re-examine them from a myriad of perspectives. The recording quality alone makes this an absolute must have. Indulge yourself...you're worth it...and so is this collection!Read full review

Great show, average video quality but good sound. 1 disc (season 1 DVD #2) has subtitles that cannot be turned off. This is a major blemish in the whole set and turned a 4 star product into a 3 star product.

I am an original Star Trek devotee so I was always behind the times to watch a new series due to a sense of self imposed loyalty. I refused to watch ST-TNG for several years and finally had to admit that it was just as great and addictive as the original. The same with Deep Space 9. But a female captain!? (Capt. Janeway) I saw no reason to watch Voyager as I knew it couldn't be good. I finally gave it a chance and have had it admit that it is, in my opinion, the best of the Star Trek spin-offs. It is difficult to find reruns of Voyager on TV so I knew I needed to buy the complete series if I was to see what I had missed. I really like and respect the actors on the show. They had to have known that there would be a lot of viewers like me who would be comparing them with the actors on the previous shows. How could a hologram Dr. be as believable as Dr. McCoy? Mr Tuvok being compared to Mr. Spock? And yet the entire crew manages to bring you aboard the starship and make you feel their struggle to return to the Alpha Quadrant. The Starfleet crew and members of the Maquis don't always get along but what a great way to show how people can get along when they work towards a common goal. (getting home) And the way the Borg was incorporated into the series was some terrific writing. Star Trek: Voyager is a Trekker's delight. I'm old enough to have seen the original Star Trek on TV and slowly learned there was no disloyalty by moving on to the other series. Star Trek started it and the spin offs used that platform and continued to grow into new worlds with new species that we Trekkers have come to love. What a legacy Gene Roddenberry started. May it continue on. "Live Long and Prosper."Read full review
This is a bit of a mixed review. Voyager in it self is great. I give it a 10 out of 10 with out even thinking. But I had several problems with the packaging and the disks themselves. First off the box is just a box. Like a normal every day box. Not a dvd box or anything fancy. Its just a box. The problem is you are almost garneted to bend it wile opening it. So if you are looking for something that will stay in perfect condition over a long period of time, then this is not it. Inside the outer box is another box that is just plain cardboard. And inside that is all 7 DVDs in cloth plastic sleeves. This is the worst packaging I have ever seen for anything. Its almost like it is bootleg, or who ever put it together just didn’t care. But its not bootleg because this collection is sold on the star trek website. Its just rather disappointing. Another problem was with the DVDs. They don’t work all that well. What happens is the video skips around like the disk is badly scratched. I tried them on the Playstation 3, on my computer, and on a normal DVD player. None of that changed anything. Eventually I got them to work perfectly on a mini portable DVD player. I have no idea why this worked better than a computer or a ps3, but it did. So this may be a huge draw back for this product. You don’t want to spend all that money on this only to not be able to watch it on your tv. In the end, this is still a great product. You get to see all of voyager, and for a rather cheep price. You just have to make some sacrifices as to how you watch it.Read full review
I had my doubts about buying this series on DVD as I read horror stories about the packaging being so poorly designed. But since it's release on Blu-ray is uncertain and the Chinese set I bought many years ago skips during some episodes, I went for it. And was I pleasantly surprised! The packaging - at least mine anyway - was at least adequate, using a plastic case for each season and a plastic page for each disc that flip like pages in a book...more than enough protection. And the quality of the video & audio? Much better than even the best episodes of the Chinese copies. Much better. It would be hard to tell the difference between this on my Blu-ray player and an authentic Blu-ray disc being viewed. The only thing I miss is packaging that describes the episodes and other content...like I've seen with other DVD sets. SPOILER ALERT!!! THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBES SOME VOYAGER STORY MATERIAL I'm a trekkie since the early '70s and Voyager was always one of my favorite Trek series. I won't get into much of a description of the show because if you're looking into buying the Star Trek: Voyager series on DVD then you've either already watched it a lot on cable, remember when it was broadcast over the airwaves or at least done some work on the 'net looking into the basic storyline. I'll just say that after being thrust into the Delta Quadrant, attempting to travel 70,000 light years to get back home creates some good stories & action. Character development blossoms after a season or two, especially with the holographic doctor and later...Seven of Nine. (Basically the only recurring subject that sucks is the Kazon, an annoyingly aggressive race that Voyager finally flies out of the range of after the 1st & 2nd seasons. If you can put up with them until then, you'll have lots of fun with the rest of the series.)Read full review
The DVD set is great. It allows you to watch your favorite episodes over and over again. I think what makes this series so enjoyable is that despite a hard day at work or the junk you hear/read about in the daily news, you can always put one of the DVD's (or more!) and just put the real world on hold for a while. You can just sink into the plot of whatever episode(s) you like and destress. Its not a politically charged series and it doesn't have anything to do with present day-its a refreshing plot in terms of entertainment. I am not an avid DVD buyer; in fact, this series is the only DVD's I own. However, Star Trek Voyager captured my imagination as a kid and I always wanted to own the DVD's when they came out. It took me years to track down a DVD set for a reasonable price. You will see many sets are going for several hundred dollars and that's absolutely outragious. I wouldn't pay more then about $250 for the set, or $35/season. Star Trek merchandise has always been much more expensive than other television series products and I never understood why. It's not that popular compared to pop culture dramas, etc. Anyway, if you are a fan and you've wanted to own the DVD's, I do recommend them. However, beware that you aren't being taken. Don't pay more then its worth. There's always an alternative to paying hundreds of dollars. Besides, for those who aren't aware, DVD's, CD's and other similar forms of storeage don't actually last past 15-25 years. No matter how good you care for them, they will eventually disinigrate. You don't want to be one of those people who have invested hundreds/thousands of dollars into elaborate collections that will only last you 15-25 years!Read full review
Love the series and the DVD quality is very good minus the fact that this is not a Widescreen version. However, the manufacturers packaging design and quality of materials totally sucks! Every one of the plastic trays were cracked even though the outside box was dentless. This was NOT caused by a direct shipping mishap. I can tell the cd's were doomed from the start the way they designed the box and trays. The DVD themselves were untouched, but I had to buy my own metal CD/DVD case to keep them protected. I threw away all the original packing. VERY POOR choice in any solid long lasting material for packaging. Cheapens the whole set.
Voyager is a good show but not the best Star Trek series out there. When someone told me that DS9 was the best, I thought they were lying. Everytime I ever saw an episode on television it made me cringe, however, after getting all the star trek box sets, I would rate DS9 as my second favorite Star Trek. Unfortunately this drops Voyager down to 4th place. However it is still worth watching. But that is not the real reason I am writing this review. I read a review earlier that made my skin crawl. Someone mentioned they had purchased a copy of Star Trek Voyager on eBay that came inside a cardboard box and the discs were in sleeves. The only thing left that they needed to say was that the DVDs were lettered with back writing to be sure, but I am almost positive they got caught with one of the Star Trek Bootleg Discs that have flooded the eBay market place. If you want a real copy of the series, here are some questions you should ask, and answers you will awant to receive. 1) Is the case clear colored plastic with a two part plastic slipcover. If the Answer is NO then it is probably a counterfeit. I have never seen a paramount product that did not feature cases that were not made out of Plastic. 2) Is the lettering on the DVDs white? If they say no, this is another sign that it is probably a counterfeit. There are a few more ways to tell the counterfeit from the real item, but these are the main ones that they are currently doing to this product. If you do not mind wasting a hundred dollars on counterfeit DVDs then go for it. Otherwise stay with the listings that state the type of case the DVDs are in and possibly the color of the lettering.Read full review
Star Trek Voyager is the best Star Trek series produced to date--I like the premise of it, there's continuity (with the whole travel home thing), and the crew is not all Starfleet. It adds an element of interest rather than the usual "Head for Starbase XYZ" after some disaster or another. Voyager's crew has to think on their feet, come up with creative solutions, and be totally self sufficient. After a couple of years of catching reruns on TV, I finally decided to purchase the set so I could consecutively watch all the episodes, and not miss out on anything. Plus I can watch it whenever I want. The only drawback: with limited budgets for TV shows, the 'alien species' are all kind of humanoid, and for some reason speak English, plus use the same descriptions of time as the crew (ie years, days, hours, minutes). Ah, well, that's what full-length movies are for. It would be neat if they made a Voyager movie someday. Excellent set, I would highly recommend it.Read full review
I have been buying each series of Trek in order, and recently got to these. OK, actually, I bought TAS out of order, but that doesn't matter. Having never had seen any of this on TV (I don't watch TV anymore, haven't since I was a kid) it was surprisingly good. As with TNG and DS9, the first season started out kinda slow while they built characters and backstory. As they went along, they got better. Certainly one of the best moves was the season 4 dropping of Kes and addition of Seven of Nine, who, as the series progressed, because one of the best characters, not just because of her eye-candy characteristics, but because of Jeri Ryan's acting ability and the strong stories given her. The way the producers handled the "alien of the week" aspect was pretty good, although it's amazing how every species in all the galaxies look so humanoid, other than ears and noses. Probably the best character is the Doctor, who also got better as the series progressed and he took on more human foibles. Plus his interactions with Seven were always good. Eventually, however, as creative differences cropped up between the executive producers and they phased in new people (pun intended) the continuity and quality of the stories and the direction of the show wandered almost as much as Voyager itself did from it's intended course. They managed to bring it all together by the end of the 7th season and it all ended satisfactorily, but there were often episodes that were pointless and derivative. But overall the quality, considering the number of episodes (176 I think) was quite good. So, for me, I would likely rate them in the following order, minus Enterprise which I have yet to see: 1. DS9 - best stories, action, and characters 2. TOS - where it all came from 3. TNG - the link between TOS and the modern Trek universe 4. VOY - quite good but too many cooks 5. TAS - How Roddenberry ever consented to putting his name on this pablum is beyond me. I would like to mention that I would have given this 5 stars if the packaging had been even acceptable. I'm pretty sure I got the official Paramount release, and the fact that the boxes were crap, the inner box was just a cardboard sleeve with a cutout that held a Tyvek multi sleeve with 8 holes, and that there was no booklets, nothing other than ST:VOY and the disc and season number on the discs, is just shameful. Shame on you Paramount for bringing down the quality of such a great series just to maximize your profits, especially on an overpriced box set to begin with. This had to be the worst packaging of all the sets I own.Read full review
