I believe Apple reached the pinnacle of portable music player with this iteration of theiPod. The iPod Nano 5th generation 16 GB with flash storage is extremely lightweight compared to the hard drive based iPods. Because it is flash storage it is much more durable to drops and shocks than the fragile hard drive based iPods. I know because Ive had several of the other kind and broken a couple of them. Features are great: video camera, FM radio tuner, pedometer, cover flow, genius play, and seamless transition from one music track to the ned (optionally enabled from the menu.) Since it's very light, it's perfect for dropping in a pocket without feeling a lot of bulk and weight.

This purchase's unit's screen won't light up enough to read screen unless under bright light. Have another unit (same kind) as well. AS FOR BOTH: Hard to hear clearly. Turns itself on when slightly moved or bumped so battery gets run down easy. Difficult to transport this way. Battery doesn't like to last long and is hard to charge up. FM receiver not very strong, has hard time picking/holding stations in our area. Tried adjusting all settings according to manual for issues, nothing helps. Disappointed. Pluses: Does hold A LOT of music, photos, etc. Suggest carrying in a hard-shell eyeglass case and turning off the shake to operate feature.

This is my second iPod Nano. I generally like them because they are small and easy to work with. I like this one better then the Generation 3 I previously had. This Generation (5) has the video feature, audio books, and pictures available too. It just has more features simply. The video feature is nice, I can take videos of my daughter with out having to go searching for my video camera. The quality of the video isn't exceptional but more or less what you would expect it would be with a iPod.
I bought this device mainly because I have a 2GB Nano that sits in the glove box of my car, connected to my head unit via a Direct Connect cable. This allows me to charge and control my iPod from the CD player in my car. While it works fine with my old 2nd gen nano, it will not charge the 5th Gen iPods. While it's probably a restriction of my radio (as when I plug it in, it says "Charging Not Allowed with this Accessory" or something to that effect), I am disappointed that it will not charge. It still is able to work with my CD player (from a functionality perspective), but I just have to make sure to take it from my car every day, or every other day. Was kind of hoping to leave it in the glove box, but oh well. I really enjoy the FM radio, external speaker, and the video camera that they have added to this. They are all very nice features, and are good quality (but don't expect to be jamming to AC/DC in your car with the windows down through the external speaker). Overall I am satisfied with this iPod, and can't wait to see what Apple does in the future with the iPod line (not a big fan of the iTouch personally, so iPod is my route to go).Read full review
I love everything about the Nano itself..An amazing product in and of itself! It's that Itunes interface that leaves much to be desired. 90% of my music was stored in folders and easily organized by Windows media player with associated album artwork for easy visual. When Itunes was done importing it 70% had no artwork ... was listed as unidentified album and 10 out of 30 albums were broken up into individual albums with one song each.. No remedy to regroup individual songs into "custom/user" albums. I don't consider playlist as a solution because it still leaves you with a base library of jumbled junk. I can't flip through the albums and then drill down to songs when each song was made into an individual album.. When attempting to retrieve artwork I was forced to sign up (with payment method) for Itunes before this extortionist of a program would even search for artwork for albums which already had Artwork when viewed through windows media player... So basically if Apple didn't feed it to you and get the money your library is intact but jumbled and clunky to use... Itunes .... keep it. Also,,, the jumbled mess is transferred to that sleek beautiful piece of art .. your Ipod Nano which has no choice but to show you the jumbled mess it has been synched with from Itunes... I have been doing eBay for a fair bit now, but well before I was a registered user I was selling all types of Games. Making me very much one of the leading DS Games sellers on eBay today. I have a large inventory covering from Accessories to cell phones to name but a few. We generally offer reasonable pricing for quantity purchases, but bear in mind that your seller is not in business because he or she likes to sit at a computer all day. Most of us are in business for the same reason that we all go to work every day - to pay the bills. As a rule of thumb, most consumer electronics have small margins (usually less than 10%). I have been requested many times by EBay to write a Review on iPod Nano, so here Goes; If you've had the same iPod nano for the past few years, this new device will probably make you feel like you need a replacement. It's still not exactly your cheapest option if you're looking for pure MP3 playback, the nano is a pretty attractive choice. I like to see those prices drop. The new nano is a smart, fast, capable player that should please a lot of people looking for something new. The nano is a miniature iPod. Apple has tweaked over time doing away with the click-wheel, introducing a range of multi-coloured nanos, conjuring up a stubbier, chubbier version, nano concept has remained the same; it’s like an iPod, just smaller. The new iPod nano has undergone a dramatic makeover a tap of the finger sends you whizzing through menu and the emphasis is firmly on music, than on shooting videos or watching films. This new nano feels like an over-priced iPod shuffle with a screen, rather than a discrete product. Consumers can choose an 8GB (£129) or 16GB (£159) model in a variety of colours. The 16GB is enough for the music and video. It’s a poor relation to the iPod touch. But it doesn’t feel like an iPod. It lacks the charm of the shuffle, the lustre of the touch. You are paying extra money just for the privilege of tapping a touch-screen than clicking a button. While you can not fault the new iPod nano for its ease of use, it has lost something in its redesign. The new iPod nano is usable, but it’s also forgettable. It’s not hard to see why the iPod touch is now Apple’s best selling music device. As I said earlier, for the price, you won't find another flash MP3 player that looks as good, is as easy to use, or that has anywhere close to the same capacity. As it stands, it is a nicely designed, good looking player that most people will be happy with. It is just the lack of manual equalizer and some way of charging it when you're away from your computer that stops it being an outstanding player.Read full review
This is my first iPod. I bought this to mainly use at my office with an iHome docking station. It was very simple to just slip the iPod into the dock and I could either use the controlls on my iPod or the ones on the dock to pick what I wanted to listen to. Pros: It is very easy to load new music and has great sound! I am very happy I bought the iPod. If you can afford it go for the step bigger storage size than you think you need. You won't regret it! I am extremely glad to have purchased the 16gb, as I was conteplating the 8gb. I have the 16gb almost half full, with a ton more CDs to add to the list! It has a lot of other great features like a pedometor, radio, pause radio function, camera, video capabilities, games.. and more that I know I haven't even had a chance to explore. You won't be dissapointed! Cons: The earphones they give you don't match the color of your iPod. They are the standard white earphones, so in my opinion they look odd with the black iPod that I purchased. It also doesn't come with a screen protecter, a cover or a regular wall plug in, so everything is an extra accesory that you have to pay for. It isn't perfect in how you have to scroll through the menu's, but what is? Over all I am very happy, and would recommend this over another brand of portable music player. (I have an iRiver and hardly ever use it, because it was too much work to get to the music I wanted to hear.)Read full review
I've owned the 1st and 3rd generation Nano prior to this. Each one I think was revolutionary in it's category of smaller hand held music player. Screen sizes were always small, but still the quality of the screens was top notch. The only disappointment I had with the 1st gen was it didn't have enough storage. My 3rd gen Nano similarly wasn't big enough to hold all my music. After the 5th gen came out I was jealous of the onboard camera and video playback ability (which the 3rd gen also had, but not enough space to store movies). But I sat back and watched as Apple trashed the Nano with the current 6th gen model, that people are turning into wristwatches. So I finally made the hard decision of going out and getting the older more desirable 5th gen model, with the maximum 16GB of storage. And this in my opinion is the best Nano ever made. It is so thin (much thinner than the 1st and 3rd gen models, narrower and less tall than the 1st gen). And 16GB is more than enough room for my whole music collection. I still have 6GB left over to record movies or playback movies I sync onto the device.Read full review
I like this so much because its handy. I can listen to my favorite songs anytime. Keeps my good mood going especially when I'm in the gym. The only thing I don't like about it is the camera features. Since its only for video and it doesn't allow me to take snap shots. And the screen is too small for a good quality video too.
I recently was shopping for a 16gb 5th generation iPod nano and placed a bid and won. Upon receiving it, I quickly opened it and began to use it. It's very nice. It has a larger, more vivid screen compared to previous generations. The video camera takes very clear videos. The voice over feature allows the iPod to talk to the user saying what is currently playing and what menu features are highlighted through the headphones or the external speaker which also plays music through it. The radio feature picks up all radio stations clearly in the FM band. The tag feature allows you to tag songs so when you sync your iPod it allows you to buy the tagged song in the iTunes store. The built in pedometer keeps track of your steps and calories burned and logs it in a calender and downloads it to Nike so you can keep track of your fitness. If you plan on buying a 5th generation iPod nano, I would highly recommend getting one.Read full review
