I picked this version 1 up to reference against my Version 2 Rt 66. Side by side, it's hard to define. The V1 seems a bit more bright in the Overdrive, and the Compressor seems a bit more boomy. I prefer the blinding blue light on the V2 compressor channel as I'm partially color blind so the red and green side by side are hard for me to see in the corner of my eye, but I always know when the compressor on V2 is on. I like the pot guard on the V2, but the pots on V1 are better crafted and seem sturdier. The overall dimensions of the V1 are a hair larger all around than the V2, but I like the older pots. Didn't experience any noise like people said. They are easier to replace if something breaks too. The custom logo pots on the V2 - not so much. Sonically, hard to argue one over the other, but I'm drawn to the original for it's rareness. Hmmm.Read full review
Now that my item has sold, I can add a review without a conflict of interest. It's a shame to see a two-star review criticizing the seller and product condition on this sweet pedal! Two effects based on classic designs, with extra tone control and done very well. My guitar player friend said "It's worth owning just for the compressor." The overdrive has a midrangey bite that works very well with the right guitar and amp. With a great Comp and a solid OD in one box, you can do a lot with just one pedal. It's built to take a lot of abuse, and has a beautiful finish and really cool shiny knobs. Yeah, it even looks good! (I didn't think it worked very well on bass though.)
I was retiring my 20+ year old "Mod'ed" BOSS Compressor and Blues Driver. Bought a Visual Sound Route 66 because of "other" reviews and I am EXTREMELY PLEASED! While the overdrive is not a "distortion" box it IS a true OVERDRIVE... AND the compressor - WOW... This is THE cleanest, quietest compressor, short of a UREI, that I have EVER encountered! I truely like EVERYTHING about this box... I am 63 and still gigging in Memphis - so I use this little devil at EVERY gig - it is now a permanant addition to my pedal board - YOU CANNOT GO WRONG - if you looking for EITHER a Compressor or an Overdive - this box is THE one to have!
Works great, excellent price. Simply a well made unit.

Love everything, and have no complaints. It does exactly what I wanted. Very well built, very easy to use. I am going to buy more Visual Sound products because of my experience.
Nice sounding effects pedal. I'm going to go play through it again right now.

If you want the original Tube Screamer 808 combined with a two in one compressor then this is it. It is worth the money just for the Tube Screamer as it has the same build as the originals. The new ones don't use the same chips and not made in Japan. This one is built like a tank and made in the USA!
I won the first, older version of this pedal. I just did not want to have the new, plastic pedal for some reason, but anyways I won the pedal off ebay for $89 total. When I got it the compression half of the pedal did not work, but the light would come on. Now the light for the compression pedal does not even turn on to engage it. I'm not complaining. I really like the overdrive though. It's pretty sweet.
Compressor is so good, i usually leave it on. The OD is is just as sweet. both are very versatile and tasteful. my only gripe is the metal knobs...the new ones have the rubber knobs which are easier to see under stage lighting. smart move VS.
Decent pedal and I'm certianly not unhappy with it, but takes a large foot. If I had it to do over again I'd just by Visual's Compressor and then get a for real Tube Screamer.
