Sonny Rollins in his prime. The sound quality may be somewhat lacking on discs 2 and 3, but the music is so powerful and solid that sound quality takes a back seat. Disc 1 is the best by all measures but discs 2 and 3 are not far behind. The liner notes are very instructive too and discuss how Sonny Rollins was not thrilled by his Selmer Mark VI tenor. He arranged to purchase an American horn from a Dutch musician and brought it with him to these shows.
