GROWING UP AS A KID I ENJOYED DISASTER MOVIES. THE TOWERING INFERNO WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FILMS. THE MAIN REASON WAS THE DIRECTOR, IRWIN ALLEN. HE COULD GET A CAST OF HOLLYWOOD SUPERSTARS TOGETHER LIKE NO OTHER DIRECTOR. I HAD THE DVD AND WHEN I SAW THE CHANCE TO GET THE BLU RAY I GOT IT. THE PICTURE IS SO SHARP AND THE COLORS LOOK AMAZING! BUT THE SOUND IS REALLY AMAZING. THE FILM NEVER LOOKED OR SOUNDED SO GREAT. IT'S A TREAT TO SEE PAUL NEWMAN AND STEVE MCQUEEN IN THE SAME FILM. ALSO, FRED ASTAIRE AND FAYE DUNAWAY ARE GREAT. THERE'S EVEN A BRADY IN THE CAST. ACTOR MIKE LOOKINLAND, WHO PLAYED BOBBY BRADY, IS GREAT IN HIS CAMEO ROLE. THE SPECIAL EFFECTS ARE THE BEST FOR A FILM FROM THE 1970'S. IT WILL HOLD YOUR ATTENTION TO THE LAST EXCITING MOMENT. IF YOU GET THIS BLU RAY YOU WILL RELIVE THE BEST OF THE DISASTER FILMS.Read full review

The most memorable thing about this 165 minute film was Robert Wagner being trapped with his girlfriend after hours and romance. Wagner made one last final attempt to run for help, but was engulfed in flames as he ran towards the entrance. I guess that really puts things into perspective for many who live through some form of trauma. Burning in a fire happens to be my least favorite method of death, and I'm terrified now even more about buildings since 9/11. The Towering Inferno was one of those films in 1974 that you had to see because it had so many stars in one billing. You rarely find that now since the Screen Actor's Guild demands such a high price for many of its actors and entertainers. Steve McQueen and Paul Newman being in one film was spectacular. Of course you had Richard Chamberlain, Susan Blakely, Faye Dunaway, Fred Astaire, and O.J. Simpson. I'll give this film a 5/5 for its magnificent attempt to scare you to death. You really start feeling for all those rich people and those that were only there trying to do their job. IF YOU LIKE MY REVIEWS PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO LET ME KNOW BY VOTING. THANKSRead full review
Towering Inferno is a well-crafted and well-acted movie, with excellent performances. Like most disaster movies, the plot revolves around a state of the art high-rise in San Francisco. Due to faulty wiring, the building catches fire trapping people all throughout. You are kept on the edge of your seat with amazing pyrotechnics, daring helicopter rescues and the fire departments last ditch effort to save the last remaining people on the top floor of the building. Paul Newman plays the architect who designed the building and Steve McQueen is the fire chief who risks his life fighting the fire. Towering Inferno is a classic, and can never be remade. It has its own special brand of magic, special brand of feel and look.
Excellent product, nice edition (great menu), sound editing better than DVD version, high picture definition beyond any other version, clean subtitles. TOP TOP TOP !!! I missed this film in my childhood but long to see it like no other kid in my town !! Amazing acting work from Steve Mc Queen (a very tough convincent firemen chief, charismatic) Paul Newman and no less Chamberlain, Holden and beauty divas from those years like Susan Blakely and Faye Dunaway I'm really pleased with this gem, I would easyly buy it again I recommend to all e-bay members
Saturday afternoon movies with my siblings! I know movies are more sophisticated and advanced graphics, better acting... but the fear and the adrenaline that this movie produces in you keeps this movie able to hold its own. TV definitely isn’t what it use to be and I doubt you’ll find this on cable... glad to own it!
