Recently, I was at a friend's house when the original Blues Brothers movie came on tv. He and his wife wondered why I got so excited, and I questioned if they had ever seen Blues Brothers? After getting over my shock of them saying "no", I proceeded to "google" and "wikpedia" all the Blues Brothers information I could gather for them. It was then that I discovered this gem of an album- produced two years BEFORE the original movie was ever made(1978- the movie was in 1980). The main characters (John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd) we all know from the movie are the same on the album. Belushi and Aykroyd, respectively as lead vocalist "Joliet" Jake Blues and harpist/vocalist Elwood Blues are awsome, along with the rest of the band that appears in the movie. The music is fun to listen to, with my favorite being "Soul Man", which actually hit #14 on the Billboard 100 chart.Read full review
This album was the Blues Brothers first album but it has always taken a back seat to their movie soundtrack (which is excellent). But this album has several classic, but lesser-known, cuts that are very good. "Soul Man" and "Rubber Biscuit" got the most play, but "Flip, Flop & Fly" and "B Movie Boxcar Blues" are two of several other good songs that show off the band's talents. "Messin' With the Kid" could have been left off, but other than that it's a very good album.
A bit disappointing, just a few good songs.
