NotesPINK FLOYD / DARK SIDE OF MOON - Vinyl LP. The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth album by the English rock band Pink Floyd. Originally released on 1 March 1973, on the label Harvest, it built on ideas explored in the band's earlier recordings and live shows, but departs from instrumental thematic by founding member Syd Barrett. The album explores themes including conflict, greed, the passage of time, and mental illness, the latter partly inspired by Barrett's deteriorating mental state. - Developed during live performances, an early version was premiered several months before recording began; new material was recorded in two sessions in 1972 and 1973 at Abbey Road in London. The group used some advanced recording techniques at the time, including multitrack recording and tape loops. Analogue synthesizers were prominent in several tracks, and snippets from recorded interviews with Pink Floyd's road crew and others provided philosophical quotations throughout. Engineer Alan Parsons was responsible for many distinctively notable sonic aspects and the recruitment of non-lexical singer Clare Torry. The album's iconic sleeve, designed by Storm Thorgerson, depicts a prism dispersing light into colour and represents the band's lighting, the record's thematic material, and keyboardist Richard Wright's "simple and bold" design request. •Stereo remastered album on heavyweight 180g vinyl •Original UK release date: March 1973 •Certified 15 times platinum in the US and 14 times platinum in the UK •Reached number one in the UK and the US •Topped Billboard Top LPs and Tapes and charted for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988 •Pink Floyd's most commercially successful album and one of the best selling worldwide 2016 version Remastered from the original analogue tapes by James Guthrie, Joel Plante, and Bernie Grundman

    The classic collectors re-release.

The album arrived fast, clean, hole centered, perfect shape, no warp just great album manufacturing in 180g. Recording is very smooth, delicate, sharp, crisp, detailed, uncompressed and revealing but gives a relaxed slight laid back feel. In my system and I am critical, the album had lots of bass not super huge maybe 5% subdued but its not suppressed, its prominent. The dynamic range was great not open reel tape large but still close, very enjoyable pace, rhythm and timing. Actually this LP is mastered from original tape source that captured details not heard clearly on the CD version I have, but records will have some analogue flaws. Still the LP is piercing, unpolished and yet easy on the ears. Pressing was excellent, no skips, tics or pops, contains all its ringing, echo and keyboard was almost too clear. Some I read say the mastering is bleh or compressed, no dynamic range are needing perhaps a new stylus or wash that album in a ultrasonic bath to get it alive again. Yes, its not a Mofi where you will have more dynamic range engineered, exceptional tape readers and much further effort in mastering but its close. For the price, I still recommend this version because its 2 channel presentation beats both the CD and SACD 5.1 I have in my collection. Enjoy the music.

    Great master …bad pressing.

The record sounded great until the last cut on the second side where there was a loud tic…a click. It was in the pressing. It’s a bad pressing from the factory.

  • Replaced original vinyl

I bought this as a replacement of the original vinyl I got from my mom. For a remaster, it sounds great! Can still hear the bass perfectly. The posters and stickers are awesome. The protective sleeve for the vinyl is lined with a special type of plastic that won’t scratch.

  • A must have. Received it fast. Packaged well. I can't say enough

A most for vinyl owners. Sounds great. It sounds completely different from CD. It's like another version of the album. In a way I guess it is. Some guitar are a lot lower the CD. And you hear stuff you haven't hear before. It's like hearing it for the first time

  • Great sound and low surface noise.

Nice sounding pressing. Packaging much nicer than I expected. Came with reproduction poster that looks just like my original from original pressing. Well worth the price given the quality.
