The inhabitants of a small 17th century village find their lives forever changed by the unearthing of a rotting devil's claw. In the tradition of "Witchfinder General" (but less historical and far more hysterical), this film is regarded as one of the most harrowing British horror films of the 70s.

  • Folk Hortor Hammer

One of the big three folk horrors The Wicca Man (my favourite) Witchfinder General and Blood on Satan’s Claw mI only had a faint memory of viewing this one Would wonder what the Me Too movement would have thought of the nude scenes and sexualising of the lead young actress not just in this film though appeared fine interviewed in later years said she’d never want that for her daughter! Enjoyed the film very entertaining well acted and with some Hammer signatures though some departures also Again witchcraft/witches /females and Feamsle energy depicted as evil and destructive and to be stamped out violently but what’s new especially for that time. No issues with the item All good Kerrir

I enjoyed the movie even though I was expecting more blood, gore, horror, violence and supernatural themes. Anyway, overall, still a good movie. I loved the female nude scenes

  • Pagan horror at its finest!

Odd, gripping, disturbing British horror film from the early 70s. If you like films such as The Wicker Man and Witchfinder General you will enjoy this film. Folk horror/pagan horror at it's weirdest. Linda Hayden and Patrick Wymark impress and the gloomy menacing atmosphere of the autumnal English countryside casts a mantle of impending doom over the characters. This village needed a youth centre!!!
