Gideon is, to me, the perfect Kenny Rogers album, based on the style of songs and singing, the lyrics, and even the images of Kenny as a cowboy on the album cover and reverse. It is a concept album with all lyrics "narrated by" or sung about a deceased cowboy. The hits are Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer, You Were a Good Friend, and Saying Goodbye, but really all the songs are good. Share Your Love is also a good album, containing the hits Through the Years and I Don't Need You. These are consecutive studio albums in Kenny's catalog, which I think is the ideal way to make a two-fer. This two-fer CD pack also includes two bonus tracks: Love the World Away from the Urban Cowboy Soundtrack and Lady, the new track from Kenny's diamond-selling 1980 Greatest Hits album. High price is the only downside. Gideon is especially hard to find on CD (I don't know why more copies haven't been made), which makes this item pricey, often found used at over $100. I was luckily able to find a "new old stock" copy for less than that. One might wonder (as I did) whether the sound quality would be good since this mastering seems to have been for a very limited run of CDs, but it sounds good to me, as good as the vinyl copy I also have.Read full review
