Keeping film alive
This is a classic student camera with all the necessary features to take solid film shots. Really accurate match-needle light meter. Keep in mind that the shutter speed only goes up to 500, unlike the 1000 speed of its slightly more sophisticated doppelgänger, the AE-1. The TX is perfect for starting out in film photography, very straightforward usage without many parameters to mess up if you're not a master yet. But don't let the ease of use turn you off to this camera--it's still entirely capable of taking beautiful, intricately balanced pictures. Also, this thing is built like a tank, with a very satisfying weighty and metallic feel in your hands.
