Optics are one of those things where you need to pay to get good quality. Since I have seen these magnifiers on sale for under $2 each, it's not fair to expect anything very much from them. I have compared this lens (30 x 21 mm) side-by side with an old 20 x 12 mm lens, and the old lens was the clear winner. The main problem is that this lens has severe pincushion distortion, to the extent that the outer 50% of the field of view is pretty much unusable. There is also chromatic aberration in this area. I've attached a photo of the sort of thing to expect. Nonetheless, it's still fine for some applications; for instance, you can inspect solder joints and read off the numbers on a surface-mount IC perfectly well with it. If you don't have a need for a perfect, undistorted image, this magnifier represents good value for money and I am recommending it on this basis.Read full review
