    Greatest film of it's type, a film that makes you think.

    One of the many reasons The Exorcist is such a triumph is because the writer and director truly believed in what they were making. They didn't set out to make a "horror" movie, instead, they went for something very real based on a true story from the 1940s about young possessed boy who underwent an Exorcism. The film also has a perfect cast, truly believable characters. Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, Max Von Sydow, Linda Blair Lee J. Cobb are all superb. The film was directed by William Friedkin, one of the greatest 1970s directors, he was part of the second Golden Age of Hollywood. I don't think any other director could have handled this kind of story as well as he did, superb, and beautifully directed. The cinematography, the lighting, the sound effects, the score and main theme are all top notch. The film inspired many similar type movies afterwards, but none of them have the staying power and realism of The Exorcist. This is a true classic, and a film that will scare you and make you think. As William Friedkin and Bill Blatty say, it's about the mystery of faith. The new Blu Ray edition is awesome, the movie never looked better! It includes both the original 1973 theatrical release, as well as the later directors cut with 20 minutes of addition footage. It also comes in a nice book like packaging with a nice color book with lots of great photos and information about the film.

    Exactly what I was looking for

    The extended cut is pretty easy to find on Blu-ray but I'd only seen the original years ago on DVD. It had some extras that my director's cut DVD did not. This edition has both versions of the film and, as far as I can tell, ALL of the extras from the previous releases (which, as a nerd, is a real selling point).
