About this product

Product Information

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 features a completely new engine from the previous three releases in Activision's acclaimed skateboarding series. Areas of focus include larger, more expansive levels and in-depth goals integrated into a revamped Career Mode that eliminates the time meter. Each of the 14 available professional skaters has been remodeled from 3,000 to 4,000 polygons, allowing for more realistic looking characters.

Worlds are also designed to be more realistic than in versions past, with interconnected areas like college campuses and zoos featuring pedestrians and pro skaters to converse with. Speaking to characters is important, since the goals and objectives needed to earn money are revealed, such as destroying kegs at a frat party, jumping across moving parade floats, knocking over football players, or racing to catch friends before being caught by security.

All of the pro skaters found wandering around the worlds speak to players using the voices of their real-life counterparts. After completing a pro's goal, players can access a separate option to add bonus items to the courses like ramps, rails, and quarter-pipes, while cash earned from other goals is used to purchase new threads and skateboards. Players can also save their hard-earned money to unlock a hidden skater or bonus level.

Also new is a technique called the spine transfer, used to lengthen the combo strings. By performing this move at the right time, the skater can jump atop a lip or surface like a balcony before transitioning to another trick. In addition to the Create-a-Skater and Park Editor features, a number of mini-games are available, including a variant on tennis (using skateboards as rackets), a basketball shootout, and more.

A Solid Title in the Series

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 is notorious for being the hardest game in the franchise. I've been playing this game for like 18 years now and it's still hard to me! I definitely wasn't getting those higher scores and combos without a few cheats. If this were your first Tony Hawk game it might discourage you, so I'd go for Tony Hawk's Underground instead. The graphics aren't terrible, but they haven't aged well. People's faces are JPEG'd to oblivion and you can definitely see the edges and textures in this game. The draw distance is good at least, and runs at 720p on the original Xbox so it's not horrible on modern TVs. The gameplay itself isn't bad either, but I've been spoiled by later entries to the series allowing you to walk, so general ability to "go from here to there" is pretty low and you do a lot of bouncing off of walls until you're facing the right way. Balance is one of the integral systems in this game and its really unforgiving, so keep grinds and manuashort! Even with the few shortcomings that the basic gameplay has, the levels are all tons of fun (except shipyard) so it's not a total headache to get around. All in all, if you've played it before or you need it for your collection, it's there. If you've played every other game and want to see if you like this one? You probably won't, but that shouldn't stop you from trying it. In a sentence, it doesn't look as good as you remember, handles just as bad as you remember, it's HARDER than you remember, but gosh dangit it's still Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.

Buyers remorse for xbox one x users.

Cons: Doesn't work for xbox one x. bought a ton of original xbox one games for my new xbox one x but none of them are backwards compatible. Sux.

  • Tony hawk Product review

I played this game many years ago and was glad i found it online..the price was great and so far the product looks great... Unfortunately i have yet to play it so not sure if it works... Sadly 1 day before i got my game someone stole my original xbox...this upset me because due to my non curable illness, playing video games was what really helped and relaxed me....so now i have to save up for an xbox and from the looks of prices online, its going to cost me more than an arm and a leg...but i am glad i got the game...cant wait to play it......whenever it will be...so the only thing i can rate game on was the timing it took to get it and the price....so far 5 stars from me

  • Old school Tony Hawk game in HD and widescreen. Best ever? You decide.

One of the best on the OG XBOX. It is a great Tony Hawk game, maybe the best in the series, but that's debatable. It is one of the best looking ones that's for sure, as you can play it in 720p widescreen via the OG XBOX. This is almost unheard of for a game system released in 2002. You can find OG XBOX games pretty cheap still these days. I highly recommend this game.

  • This is a good game

The controls are great, level design isn't that great, and the music is on point. For once, they got the chest scaling right, and I loved every second of this game.

  • Great Game

Having the first 3 on Game Boy Color and to see that they made 4 for the other consoles is great, but the controller layout for the game on xbox, is really satisfying. How you come up with the moves with a controller like xbox is really comforting

  • Unrecognized Disc

I love this, I love it a lot but this simply doesn’t work. Whenever I place it inside the Xbox it always tells me “Unrecognized Disc”. I’d assume it has something to do with the chipped edges one the disc itself.

  • Came out in 2002

THPS5 (2015) can't touch this. Oh and on Xbox it supports 720p resolution just like THPS5 on 360/PS3 so that's a little embarrassing for Robomodo, being bested in every way by a 2002 release :/
