We were excited to purchase the latest 6th generation iPod Nano after it was recently announced by Apple a few weeks ago. I just received the Graphite (aka "Silver") 16 GB model in the mail so here are my initial impressions. I previously owned a 3rd generation iPod Nano and there are some stark differences in the newest version over previous. In addition to the increased storage and great music listening quality that you get in a typical iPod device, here are a few things I noticed that seemed more unique: Navigation is all by finger touch - There are no more turn-dial style knob to change menus or screens - completely touch screen. This is a great feature but it takes some playing around with and getting used to. This finger touch metaphor is similar to what Apple has done in their navigation designs for the iPad, iPod Touch, and iPhone so if you're familiar with the use metaphors there, this will be more straightforward to you. Radio is built in - this feature isn't necessarily new to the 6th generation Nano but it's a great feature and works really well. I quickly added all of my local favorite radio stations in a few minutes. One thing to note though is that I believe you will need the original Apple headphones that come with the Nano in order to use the radio function, I'm assuming the FM antenna is built into the headphones, because when I unplugged the headphones from the device (when the radio was still turned "on"), I received a message "No radio signal. Please plug in headphones for radio reception" Petite size - it measures only about 1.5" high and 1.75" wide - it's very small and easy to fit anywhere. Past models were big enough that it could be annoying to run or do exercise with them, I don't think that's an issue any longer with this new design. Clip is built-in - there is a great and seemingly sturdy clip automatically built onto the back of the device - makes it easy to clip onto your clothes or shirt when going for a run or when you're on-the-go. Pedometer is built-in - there is a feature for a pedometer where you can automatically time/count your steps. Pretty neat feature. Clock is handy too - you can use it as a stop watch, or an alarm clock as well. Perfect when traveling away from home. Download photos - you can sync it with iTunes to download photos onto the device so they're accessible when on-the-go. And the flaws: -------------- No "off" switch - I know this sounds odd but my husband and I were baffled, after reading through the instruction manual, to not find instructions on how to turn the device completely off. I've read that this will cause some minor battery drain when not in operation. This may therefore require more frequent charging than older models. There was a discussion thread on the Apple.com message boards where you can find more info. Touch screen manipulation - because it's such a small device, you can only see a few options on the screen for your applications at any particular time so it takes a little getting used to. I've found that if you keep flipping your finger to the left, you will be able to navigate back "up" to the previous screen or menu. This isn't a huge flaw, just worth mentioning... In summary, it's a nifty and petite, yet powerful, music playing device and we're excited to use it.Read full review
I have owned several iPods over the years including (currently) and iPhone and an Ipod touch. I bought this nano for 1 reason, and it has served that purpose very well. I wanted a smaller/lighter device to workout, run, or cycle in, where I could have easy access to the controls to change playlists, pause the music, or use embedded stop watch (I do have a heart rate monitor, but don't typically use it for weight workouts and some of my workout routines are timed). I purchased the iWatch wristband mount along with the nano, and the 2 are ideal for my intended purpose. When cycling I run the headphone cord up my sleeve to keep it from getting in the way. I can leave 1 hand on the hadle bars and use the other hand to change playlists (with my iphone, I'd have to pull it out of the back of my cycling jearsy, fumble around with 2 hands while balancing on the bike and trying not to swerve into traffic while changing playlists). The stop watch comes in handy in the gym, and I haven't had any issues working out with the combo. This device does have limited capabilities compared to the Iphone/Itouch, but I knew that when I bought it. The battery life isn't great (usually have to recharge it after 2 gym workouts but I do keep the screen "lit" to use the stop watch.Read full review
THE NANO HAS A GREAT DESIGN. IT'S SMALL/COMPACT, PERFECT FOR EXERCISING OR WHEN RIDING YOUR BIKE ETC. IT'S CLIP FEATURE IS THE BEST. YOU CAN CLIP IT ANYWHERE. I USE IT IN MY CAR WHEN THE RADIO STATIONS (NEVER) SEEM TO COME IN CLEARLY. I'M NOT SURE WHY THEY DECIDED TO CHANGE THE DESIGN BUT THE NEW DESIGN IS WAY TO BIG AND YOU HAVE TO WEAR IT ON A HOLDER/ARM BAND WHICH LEAVES A FUNKY TAN LINE IF YOU ARE IN THE SUN. PLUS THEY MADE IT SO MUCH BIGGER. THIS NANO GENERATION WAS THE BEST DESIGN AND MINE HAS 16G. THIS MINT CONDITION NANO IS EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS IT LOOKS BRAND NEW AND I HAVE ONLY USED IT FOR THE LAST 5 DAYS SO I'M HOPING IT LASTS LIKE A BRAND NEW ONE. MY PREVIOUS NANO TOOK A RIDE DOWN THE ELEVATOR SHAFT 3 FLOORS AND THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENED TO IT...WAS THE SCREEN HAD SOME CRACKS IN IT BUT OTHER THAN THAT I COULD STILL SEE INSIDE THE SCREEN TO CHANGE TO THE NEXT SONG AND IT CHARGED AND SOUNDED OK ETC.Read full review

I bought this since I wanted to upgrade from the 8 GB to the 16 GB iPod nano. The battery life of all 6th generations are pretty amazing and a full charge can last a few days depending on how you use it. I like how its perfect to exercise with since its so small and lightweight and it doesn't interfere with what you do. It may not play videos but I don't care for that since I do not want to be looking at a screen anyways. The volume can be controlled by using the buttons on the top. You can skip songs by pressing the main button twice, so there really isn't a need to be constantly turning on the screen. This product is just as good, if not better than most iPods and mp3s out there.
The Apple iPod nano that I purchased was used from ebay. It was a steal for less than $100. The design is nice and small, and it's wonderful if the iPod is accessorized with a watch strap. Although the battery's life span is not advertised the way it should be. It will only last for 24 hours if it's not in use. The radio app eats up energy in about an hour, and a constant play mode will last around a few hours. Overall, it's handy as well as portable and worth buying USED. Just look out for that good deal. :-)
When the Gen 6 first came out I realized that it had great potential as a wristwatch so I found a straight leather strap for my wrist that I clipped my friend's Gen 6 to try it out then ordered one for myself from Apple. That's when things went downhill. I gave them my money then a couple weeks later my iPod arrived only to discover that they had just released the Gen 7 which they cheerily told me that they had upgraded my order free of additional charge to a Gen 7. I had kittens with them on chat. I WANTED MY GEN 6! They told me that they couldn't send me the older version but would happily refund my money. That was the next let-down. I had had the iPod personally engraved. So no refund and I was stuck with an iPod that I didn't want. I recently remembered that ill-fated venture and tried to pick up a Gen 6 on eBay. YAY! I found one that was exactly what I wanted. I also ordered a genuine LunaTik LYNK watchband, a Bluetooth dongle and a good Bluetooth headset through other venues. I love the simple lines and performance of the iPod Gen 6. Apple has made larger storage ones but haven't yet matched or exceeded the almost zen (no pun intended) design of the Gen 6. Even without the watchband it's still the best iPod IMHDO. No, I am not trying to compare it to the Apple Watch.Read full review
Despite being several years old, the 6th Gen Ipod Nano still has few competitors. Despite my hunt, there are few devices I can choose that really have a discreet form factor that includes FM Radio. Although purchased used, I'm getting approximately 10 hours of playback, which seems to be a common limitation, even for some owners with new Nanos. I will be purchasing an aftermarket battery to replace it in the near future. Like all Apple products, I was able to figure out the interface with little to no instructions due to the intuitive design. With the aid of an aftermarket wristband to mount it like a watch, I run the headphone wires up my sleeve and out through the collar to keep them tucked and out of the way while working. For us old folk that still listen to radio and the occasional podcast, or music list without streaming or cursing Bluetooth to hook up to every thing in 30 seconds, it perfectly fits the bill.Read full review

Bought this product for its very small size and its practicality, so I'm able to take it everywhere with me to listen music! (runnning, working…) Easy to use, lots of memory, long lasting battery, small, light, hanging up easily where you want … A great iPod if you want to listen music (but too small for pictures) ! Maybe an expensive object but it's the top of the range to listen music!
I use my ipod while riding my Harley motorcycle. I love the clip as I can attach it to my clothing or my cup holder on the bike. The volume button is harder to reach for me while riding as it is on the top and very small. I also have an ipod shuffle and it is easy to pause or change volume. I will learn to set the volume before I take off down the road.
