I purchased this book for my 17mo old son. We are expecting another baby in about a month & have been discussing it with him but wanted more visual aids. We love reading together & this was perfect. He's not quite gentle enough for regular pages but this is one of the VERY few board books for really young readers. This book does not read as a story book because each page is a different setting & concept. For instance: mommy, older sibling & infant at table eating but mommy's breast feeding (this book also shows breast feeding, descretely, instead of bottle feeding, which is what I needed as well). The next page deals with something totally different like baby always crying how can we make it stop (picture of diaper change time), etc. So this makes it good for the caretaker to discuss the picture, etc. I use the book more as a guide & interact with my son on each page. I changed the words "Me, My & I" to my son's name & "Baby" to my daughter's name because he's not quite old enough to grasp those concepts just yet. I love that most everything about the book is flexible, the children are not made to look too boy-ish or girl-ish & they used flexible terminology in the "story lines". That said, I have purchased other books for older siblings but they had the more fragile pages so he cannot enjoy them by himself. They also tended to be more gender specific. This board book he has "read" by himself many times. I have seen him pluck it from his bookshelf & sit looking at it quite often. So that is a great plus. When I come over & chat with him about it he points & babbles (he can't talk just yet) & I take ques from him to discuss the "concern" he may be having with that particular scenerio picured. There are 12 pages in all. Concepts introduced: *Breast feeding/baby always hungry, *Older sibling holding baby (a reminder to involve older sibling & discuss how to be careful/gentle/nice), *Getting ready for the day/diaper changes shows older sibling getting dressed by him/herself & caretaker changing baby in background, *Baby getting gifts (reminder to give gifts to older sibling so not left out), *Picture time with family (baby always sleeping), *Meal times (baby can't eat grown up food, only milk), *Picture of mom & both kids singing, baby's asleep. (quality time together includes baby now), *Older sibling loves to walk (why can't baby walk/when will baby walk/maybe older sibling can teach baby when time comes), *Why is baby crying (needs something like diaper change, etc), *Bath time (older sibling can 'help' & be involved), *Baby asleep (older sibling says 'your part of my family now' concept idea family is forever), *Baby asleep (time for older sibling's quality time w/mom/dad). People portrayed in book: Older sibling, new baby, mommy, daddy. This is a wonderful tool; great, hard to find board book for very young children going into the next chapter of life as an older sibling.Read full review
