I had never heard of The Traveler's Gift until I saw Andy Andrews speak at one of my employer's conference events. He was very funny, but honestly had some great views on life. He mentioned many different pieces from this book in his stories, which made me decide to purchase it to read the full thing. I could not be happier I did! The Traveler's Gift is a great mix of fictional adventure, nonfiction role model characters, and thoughts on life. It is a story of a husband and father who has a series of life pitfalls that bring him to contemplate suicide. He awakens after a car accident to find himself in the presence of powerful historical figures throughout all of time. He encounters each of 7 people in the specific moments when they use their life skills the most, such as President Truman minutes before he decides to utilize the atomic bomb for the first time during WWII, Christopher Columbus during his long and controversial trip to sail West to find the New World, and Anne Frank in the attic during Hitler's Nazi power. After learning a specific life lesson from each person, he returns to his life and family with a greater purpose and handle on life. It is one of the great stories that will not let you put the book down, and also gives you a certain outlook on life and its challenges. In a few words, this book CHANGED MY LIFE!Read full review
I read this book as a suggestion from popular radio talk show host Dave Ramsey. This is one of the best books I've ever read in the category of self-evaluation and self-improvement and I have recommended it to friends and family, some of whom love it as much as I do. If you're thinking about reading it, go ahead and read it-I promise you won't be disappointed! This book really makes you think about the way you approach everyday situations and the results of how you handle things and the possibilities of your approach to these situations. Very positive and uplifting principles that have real-life practical applications. Reads like a novel, unlike a lot of self improvement type of material. I could go on and on about how great this book is but you won't really feel my same excitement until you've read it yourself! Enjoy! I would also recommend anything else written by Andy Andrews (Although this book is my favorite and I would recommend reading this one first). I would also recommend following Dave Ramsey's advice when it comes to life and finances and Dave's book "The Total Money Makeover".Read full review

This book is awesome! I love the way Mr Andrews tells his story by using stories from the past. I never liked history growing up but the stories he told made me start following the characters he wrote about in his book. It's amazing how just one man's actions (not the authors, but one of the REAL characters in the book) changed history...just by his determination!!! The world, or at least the United States, would be a very different place if he had not done what he did. I've read the book 3 times and just bought a copy for a friend of mine that's going through chemotherapy. I thought the positive outcomes of the stories and the book would be an inspiration to him.
I work as a bartneder and had a patron tell me about this book and how it is a great motivational piece.Well all i can say is that he was 100% right. If ever there was a book that gave you tools that helped you to realize how much further you can go in your life, this is that book.Truely an amazing journey of one mans last attempt to help his family by killing himself. He then ends up meeting some of the most dynamic individuals in our civilizations history. Each inturn give him valuable information that helped shape some of the most important outcomes of the 20th century. Not only does this book give small history lessons, but it also gives you some valuable tools to apply in your own life.
I read "The Traveler's Gift" a number of years past and would rate it as one of the best books I have ever read! I passed on my original copy so friends could read it, one of those books that you pass on to a friend in need! I bought this one for my son to read and for me to reread again. Reads very well, will total pull you into the story and can be a life changing experience! If you learn the lessons that are demonstrated in the book you can't help but be better for it. Would recommend it for anyone to read, but especially when life gets challenging, helps you appreciate and understand life! Highly recommend it!!!!
This is a wonderful book...not at all your typical self-help book. I believe this book captures the steps to a better you in a very easy to read format. This is required reading for all of my team members...I am confident you will not be dissappointed in this book. I am also a big Dave Ramsey fan....just to give you a little more background on me. The book left me feeling a bit like I feel at the end of "Its a wonderful life". Thank you Andy Andrews!
This book was recommended to me by my boss and one of the owners of my company. They were both excited about the book as they had recently been to a function at which the author was the keynote speaker. They both received copies of the book at the event. I liked the way the 'story' was constructed. I liked the 'time travel' element and I liked the wisdom imparted by the individuals visited. Great book. Read it.
Life wisdom for all ages and especially for high schoolers and college students. Offers a firm foundation, if taken to heart, to build a joyful and successful life.
