The 1950's gave rise to the neo avant-garde movement. Picking up where the historic avant-garde movement had left off, this new movement explored innovative artistic techniques and materials, consciously influenced by international technological advances. These artists created a collective language which heavily influenced generations to follow, developing a quasi tribal strategy. Each art tribe is united by a common identity or social-political issue, without destroying the individual expression of the artist. Aware, or sometimes unaware, of these tribal affiliations, the belonging to a group gives added value to the artists' work and message.
