Although regarded as a book for young adults, Rosemary Sutcliff's "The Eagle of the Ninth" has appeal for all ages. Based on a true story the novel gives accurate historical insight into the Roman occupation of Britain. It is also a book about the nature of friendship and the way in which it can transcend all obstacles. On all levels a great read ....... And worth remembering it is part of a series of novels set in Roman Britain.
