Combining traditional with modern
This hymn book nearly 800 pieces hymns and songs, including almost 100 psalms set to music. Many were written within the last 40 years. Four part harmony is possible, as the arrangements are full treble and bass clefs. (As this is the 'Harmony Edition', probably there is an edition without full harmony!) As well as sectional divisions e.g. God: Creation, Jesus Christ: Coming; The Holy Spirit; Discipleship etc, in the front of the book, at the rear are the usual First lines and common titles; Alphabetical index of tunes and Metrical index of tunes, also Composers, arrangers and Sources of tunes plus Authors, translators and Sources of words. Helpful to those leading services of worship are sections entitled: Texts based on Scripture passages; Index of subjects and The Church's year. Pros:- a good selection of old and new with helps for services. Cons:- words underneath the tune rather than contained within the staves; thin paper which allows print on the reverse to show through, reducing clarity of reading.
