Written by Temple Grandin with Mark Deesing, Humane Livestock Handling is a blueprint for low-stress cattle handling. The Colorado State University animal-handling and behavioral guru offers advice in four sections: Part I — grazing animals, from their perception to the factors of genetics and learned behavior; Part II — livestock handling from pasture to harvest; Part III — how to create a low-stress handling system, from planning and design to construction; and Part IV — facility plans for ranches, fencing, feedlots and beef plants. This book contains layouts of corrals for ranches, feedlots, and meat plants. Designs for large and small beef cattle operations. Complete instructions and illustrations to show you how to build chutes, loading ramps, fences, gates, latches, crowd pens, and sliding gates. It also contains sheep and bison layouts. The book presents ranch, feedlot, and beef slaughter plant photos. The color photos enable you to see constructions details. Includes full size corral design plans too.Read full review
Temple Grandin is the "natural" cow whisper for cows instead of horses although many of these things will help with horses too. We have been raising Irish Dexters for some time now and this particular book really helped us learn how to move them safely and without much fan fare. No yelling and carrying on either :). It is awesome. Great read!

As I am relatively new to raising beef cattle, I found this book to be very information and helpful in so many ways. Very well written and easy to understand. Whether a small farmer or commercial cattleman, you can't afford not to have this book.
If you want to treat your animals like you care...this is the book....no cattle prods allowed. Insight into behavior of animals and handlers. A happy cow is a tasty, tender cow. We all have to caretake the animals...might as well not terrorize them while we do it. I love it that my babies don't run from me but always come to see what i've got for them.
Very useful information for livestock handling. Information very detailed about livestock handling facilities. Also they are explained animal behavior principles mainly focused in beef cattle.
