Tektronix 7603 was a modular scope made by Tek from 1972 to 1992 which sold in vast numbers. Like most 7000series, it offers interchangeable plugins versatility, on-screen readouts, and best of all: the largest screen size of any electrostaticly deflected CRT which may help in cases where viewing distance is longer such as in classroom demos. Its bandwidth is a modest 100MHz (like that of 465), its reliability is good, easy of access for repair is excellent as most devices with 3 or more legs are socketed. The main power supply is linear (not switchmode). Older ones don't have a fan (may be an advantage in a cleanroom), newer ones employ a fan (w/o foam filter).

Arguably the best analog scope made. You get 100 MHz bandwidth, large bright, crisp display and no noisy fan. In fact, my scope triggers on, and displays waveforms over 300 MHz. With the right plug in the scope will give 10 microvolts per division sensitivity, differential. The only issue is the crazy length, over 2 ft. So you need a cart, or very deep test bench.

So funny. Rating a 40 year old scope! Do web search on the tektronix 7603 if curious. What distinguishes the 7603 was the large display. Although the frame is only 100mhz there are so many plugin modules still available that is a very flexible instrument. Its also fairly repairable with some of the best services manuals in the industry. Just be careful. Once bit by the vintage tektronix scope bug its hard to shake off !

7603 is the “workhorse” of analog scopes. Lots of different plugins available, large screen for its overall size. Reliable. If you don’t need extreme freq response, this is a great choice.
