because this device is a little bit old (from 2009) it have an old interface but it does its job! Recording on high quality, can record 4 channels mixing with 2 on live to Master Record! Can record Mono and Stereo, can record Line-In Low, Med and High with input A and input B. If you need to record with an electric device ( such as DJ controller) you'll need also an RCA ground Isolator.

I recently bought a used Tascam DP-004 pocket studio recorder on eBay and all functions didn't work as they should. It was one of the first models of DP-004 and hadn't been updated with the recommended Tascam software updates/fixes. Also, it had had a lot of use and some buttons seemed to stick and not operate. I'm now going to try to make use of what I can on this unit in conjunction with my new Tascam DP-006. Although the seller offered me a partial refund this was not pursued with eBay and I bought a brand new Tascam DP-006, the model which replaces the obsolete model DP-004. This unit works very well and I would certainly recommend it to someone requiring this level of recording.

I was impressed with the portability and features of the DP-004. It is an easy to use multitrack recorder, with good condenser microphones built in for times when you don't want to deal with external mic setup. The sound quality is good. It is easy to use and will let you produce a decent demo. The lack of backlighting on the DP-004 menu screen is a drawback, since not every recording situation will be well lit! Overall, though, I find the DP-004 to be a good value for the capabilities it offers.
It took a second to set up but, once you understand the shortcuts its easy to use and very versatile. My lead singer has the new pro-tools which is great but you have to do ten steps to perform one function. The Tascam DP004 you only have to touch a couple of buttons and your recording, Mixing down or punching tracks. I am very pleased with the built in microphones they are higher quality than an SM58. I highly recommend this portable studio for anyone that wants to simply capture and lay down tracks without allot of expense or a huge learning curve.
This multi track recorder is perfect for those who arent too "recording" inclined or mechanically inclined. ive learned the basics of this thing just by tinkering around with it. perfect for recording riff ideas and such and to overlap harmonies and solos to see how it all sounds together. not the recorder to get if you are recording people for money. just a great gadget to toy around with for personal use. built in condenser mics are a great feature if you dont wanna buy mics also. overall im very happy with this recorder for the price and the ease of use.
