I bought a new Mamiya/Sekor 1000DTL when I was young, and it has to be the best SLR camera I have ever used. I have also had a Nikon and a couple of Minoltas, but the image quality of the Mamiya far surpassed both these other brands. It is easy to use, has stood the test of time, and for anyone wishing to do a bit of film photography, I would strongly recommend this camera. It still works and has only been repaired once, and that was years ago--I will never let mine go...:-)

This Mamiya 1000 DTL is a solid work of craftsmanship. The fact that it is still functional after about 49 years speaks for itself. Sure, various types of maintenance may be needed due to many precision "inner workings" that can be affected by years of storage / lack of use, frozen or sluggish mechanisms (i.e. shutter issues) also due in part from wear, dirt / debris, dried out / gummed up lubricants etc. In addition the light seals will probably be deteriorated if they haven't been replaced in decades. In addition, be aware of the battery (that powers meter), it may have been left in the camera for years, resulting in leakage and corrosion to contacts . I love the fact that the Mamiya 1000 DTL has dual metering (spot and average), high tech for the late 60's and nice still today when the electronics are in working order (the meter works well in mine, although I prefer an external meter most of the time). I've always liked M42 (screw) mount lenses as well, there is some great glass out there you can use with this camera. What is there not to like about such a great piece of photographic history.Read full review

Good quality manual 35mm camera. Inexpensive lens' can be bought and other standard accessories still work. Key is getting a used one that still has the meter working. Most repair shops cannot fix as parts are no longer available:( It is 40+ years old!

What is engaging about these vintage 1000 DTL cameras, is that when one is sorted out, they are a great value. They are the definition of tank-like. The M42 lens mount will let you mount many different lenses, although Pentax screw mount lenses won't as there is a lug on the back making it not possible. I bought mine to use with the 50mm lens and maybe a 28 and 200 to round out this vintage 1970 kit. Anyone buying one of these really should buy a seals kit. I would also search on youtube where owners have great tutorials on doing minor adjustments and repairs on the camera.

I am an avid vintage camera junkie and owned a Mamiya Sekor 500DTL I bough off eBay in 2010. Due to a rough time at Bonnaroo, and the fact I wanted a 1000DTL to begin with, I searched and nodded around and decided to get this Mamiya. The camera is a chunky one but overall it has a great feel and I'm currently shooting to test it. There was I have shot avidly with my 500DTL before purchasing this camera, and I would recommend and Mamiya product to any if they're looking for quality not only in the cameras themselves, but also in the product it produces.
