I bought this tripod after extensive review of many tripods, including a purchase or two. I needed a tripod to support a heavy Horseman 4x5 view camera with large lens and many attachments. I needed it to support not only the camera but a heavy view head also. I need to have a crank up shaft also for those close up pictures for fine final adjustments. It fit the bill perfectly. It will support a heavy camera and any attachments you can care to add. It is not a back-packing tripod. It is not light weight (15+ pounds). Add a 15+ pound camera and it enters the hernia producing category. But it is rock solid, which is exactly what I was looking for. It is a cart or motor vehicle transportable tripod. It is worth every penny ($200+)

This is my second tripod of this model, although the new one has a few different features from the older one. Regardless, these tripods are super steady and not too heavy. I use them for video work with a Manfrotto fluid head mostly. Although I bought a "used" version, it still looks and function as thought it was new. Definitely recommended if you are concerned about getting steady shots, both in video and photography.

I have used two of these in my video business for the last 4 years as a main camera support. Extreamly happy with this tripod! It is very low angle to very high angle and everything in between. I use it mostly with the 114 dolly for wedding work. Very stable, quick to set up and level, light and very professional looking! I pair it with the 501HDV Fluid head which I think is the smoothest head ever made!. The Mid level spreader is adjustable which allows for the vwery low angle stuff. It is permanently attached so you don't have to worry about losing it. The rubber feet are retractable which reveal spikes if you want to use it outdoors on uneven ground. This tripod is built to last many years, it is very sturdy. For the money there just is not a better tripod out there. I have expensive carbon fiber tripods and still prefer this aluminum one for the main camera. The geared center columns are super smooth. So smooth you can roll footage as you ped up and down. Just make sure you tighten the column lock after raising or lowering it. Otherwise you get some free play in the center column as you begin a pan. Fully extended this is like 7 feet tall with a head mounted, plenty high and can extend down to about 17 inches. Buy one today, you will not be disappointed!Read full review

Great tripod and fluid head combination. Much sturdier than the carbon fiber Rocketfish I was using and the fluid head is amazing. I wouldn't want to take on a hiking trip. It just isn't that type of setup. Heavy duty and sturdy for sure.

I use this tripod to shoot video with my DSLR and it's an excellent choice. One of my favorite features is it's ability to flatten out for low shots, and also go extremely high, I believe it's 87" for high shots. The only complaint I have about it is that the action to adjust the column clamp could be smoother.
This is an excellent tripod. Nice heavy weigh, built to last under the most rigid, professional requirements. I have an older unit like this and love it. Been using it for a couple decades and will definitely enjoy the dependable and stable quality of this top of the line tripod.

I needed this tripod for the crank column. I wanted to be able to pedestal the camera up a tiny bit. Today's tripods have smooth columns so you can't do that and end up repositioning the head a zillion times. This crank head gets the job done securely and accurately.
