Lunchbox heads are a huge breakthrough

Being a small critter, It can be hard to haul around larger equipment. I use to constantly haul around a Marshall Head that was heavier than my gaming PC . It was starting to become a pain, and there weren't many alternatives at the time. I soon discovered my first lunchbox size amp at NAMM 2014, and I was baffled at how great these mini heads sounded. From that point on, I knew that it was time for me to get one. Goodbye marshall. I begin to watch many youtube videos due to me being in denial to whether they would play to my standards ( studio production, gigging, practicing, etc.) and come to find out they could do that then more. I was actually planning on getting the mini-6505 head, but saving up $499 would be impossible, considering how much I spend on a bi weekly basis. Then after a few months of digging around. I came across the peavy 6505 piranah. I decided to buy the amp because it was similar to the next best alternative, but also among the 6505 line of peavy amps, which was a plus. The alternative, Blackstar-HT amp, was selling for around $260. They both only had 3 knobs. Gain, EQ, and volume. that was all I really needed. So when I decided to plug her up, I was very impressed by the clean channel, hell I was a changed person after using the clean channel. I'm usually one of those high gain only guitarist that refuse to use a clean tone in any way or form. In fact I use the clean channel much more than I use the lead. Now time for the actual product review. The tube is pretty decent, I love the overall tone. The EQ ranges from Notch (very little mids) to full (a more fuller sound) and the gain should never really go to max. You'll be getting a decent amount of gain on the Lead channel at around 7 or 8 o'clock. you can most definitely drive this thing through an external cab, heck you could even drive it through your mixer if you wanted. I was pretty upset thought that there was no usb port on the head though. it also has an headphone jack that gives out a pretty nice sound, but I'd rather use the outputs in the back of the amp. Perfect portable solution for the price!

    Broken and almost useless

Got this amp broken, the power tubes are shot and as such the whole power amp section does not work properly. When I use the speaker simulator, the sound is thin and fuzzy. I have to slave it to another amp to get any sort of decent sound. I have contacted the seller about getting it fixed and so far this has gone no where.

  • Amazing

i bought this head about 3 weeks ago and I also bought a 412 Marshall speaker cabinet. I have been playing guitar on and off for 26 or 27 years now and have played thru just about every name brand of modeling amp and tube amp but this has got to b in my top 5 maybe even top 3 favorites so far. Me personally I think it even sounds better than my friends 5150 head & cabinet!!! It may be only 20 watts but don't let that fool you this thing gets very loud and has a very good tone from everything from metal to classic rock to country this head will do it all!!! It has allmost everything the full size 6505 head has but it's much lighter weight and is smaller. I have this head and a Marshall mini head both sitting on top of my speakers so I can plug the speaker cable into which ever 1 i'm in the mood to play that day but since i've bought the 6505 I really haven't played the Marshall that much. I researched some different heads and went on youtube and listened to different heads before I bought this 1. I actually heard my friends 120 watt 6505 plus head and it wasn't far off from what it sounded like on youtube of course I have a nice surround sound system hooked to my tv & computer so I got pretty close to the real sound of the amp like that but usually I wouldn't just buy something like this or a guitar without playing it first. I am very pleased with this head and the price is not bad either. I would recommend this to anybody who wants an awesome sounding amp that you can use as a practice amp or play out with and record with also with tons & tons of tone this has to be one of the best amps from Peavey yet!!!!

  • 6505 Plus... The Standard

if you have one you know.. the most durable, trouble free, consistant piece of Kit on earth.. if you play metal of any kind this amp simply belongs.. maybe its on your A/B switch.. maybe its a backup to your Friedman or Diesel.. but it earned its place.. just like any super reliable and great sounding amp does.

  • Great amp, even better price!!!!

Really impressed by it, sounds pretty spot on to its big bothers. Its still loud, 1w setting through a 4x12 is kinda insane at full power but awesome.

  • Great high gain amp

I did a lot of research before buying this amp. I was initially concerned about a potential lack of low end, given the discrepancies between the 6505MH and 6505+. However, the eq on this amp can provide far more than adequate bass. I am using a Maxon OD808 to clean up the lows most of the time, but the lead channel sounds great with or without the OD. I have this paired with a custom 1x12 cab loaded with a Celestion G12T-75 and it sounds amazing. The cleans are decent, as is the reverb. The crunch channel is great, but the lead channel is amazing. If you're on the fence about this one, I strongly recommend the MH if you're a fan of the 5150/6505 sound and do not need 100 watts.
