This is a great product for the price. Build quality is awesome. It is as solid of a rock as they say (and show in a video jumping on it and then even driving slowly over it) and the knobs have a solid feel too yet easy to grip unlike on other models. Can't get too much smaller for what it does. Sound quality is awesome too. Cannot tell a difference between it and the M-Audio FastTrack Pro that it replaced (at 1/3rd the price) after that fizzled out. Setup: I've got a Mac with El Capitan and no driver is needed but it initially it would not stay connected/visible and would disappear. Read online that it would not do this if it was connected through a USB hub and sure enough that is true. But then I had terrible latency with the guitar (MIDI keyboard had no latency) and thought it was the fault of the product but now I have it connected through a separate USB extension cable and there is no latency at all. This USB cable has a small buffer but not sure if that is needed. So that's the only reason why I went 4 stars instead of 5 was because I had to stumble across this solution in a forum.Read full review

I have seen four PreSonus audio boxes in action. Three out of four of them sometimes make the digital signal a little wonky occasionally and you have to unplug the USB cable to reset it. The other issue is that they pop my speakers when I'm powering down or powering up. I just put my speakers on a different power strip so I always turn them off first now. Other audio interfaces never did that on the same system. Besides a couple of small inconveniences like these, they work like a charm. Good quality and lots of functionality. I like the midi input and output on the back because my MIDI keyboard only uses that cable. Focusrite doesn't have one unless you pay for a bigger model. Lots of bang for your buck.

For the price, this is a perfectly acceptable entry-level USB audio interface. It is extremely stable (I used it with Windows 7 64-bit), easy to use, and the pre-amps and converters sound pretty good -- REALLY good when you consider the retail price. USB 2.0 will always be a little slower than FireWire for a couple of reasons, so be aware of that if you are buying a USB interface, but also know that you can't hold that against the Audiobox, it is no slower than any other USB interface. My real complaint against this box (and if you search the net, you'll find it's really everyone's only complaint) is that PreSonus designed it to be their "hottest" interface in terms of the volume that comes out of it into your computer. Even with the input gains on zero, this little beast pumps out a sizzling hot signal into your DAW. That means you have less control over the signal strength, which in my case frequently led to clipping and noise. Between the over-hyped volume and its related clipping and noise, and the lag inherent in USB and also 44.1khz devices, I eventually upgraded to a Firewire interface that had some onboard DSP effects (the Audiobox has no internal signal processing effects at all; no EQ, no compression, nada), had higher possible sample rates and less lag than USB. But it costs literally 3x more than the Audiobox, and that makes my new one still a low-end "consumer level" interface. So, if budget is a primary consideration, I'd recommend this Audiobox or an older PCI card (which will have less lag and more volume control but may have driver issues in the modern era). Lastly, PreSonus is a decent company that does try to support its customers and usually puts out decent, lower end products.Read full review
It works really good, but I have firewire devices as well and my DAW doesn't work with both kinds simultaniously, and that was something I didn't know. The unit itself I'll mostly use as a remote recording device. It's a very simple device and very clean ad/da for the price. I like it also because it comes with built in gate/compressor/eq/reverb which will be very handy when recording instruments or vocals that have a lot of dynamic range. Also, I'll be dropping it off at musicians and vocalists houses so they can record their part in their own spare time and then I'll pick it up when they're done and the import their parts into my DAW here at the house. I recommend this product very highly.
The Audiobox USB is top flight, has every feature that you could want. However as a novice in recording I believe the manual should explain the basics clearly before getting deeply into editing. The USB model is a cut below the rest of the PreSonus line, filling a gap in music recording equipment, appealing to (at least in my case) a less sophisticated customer. I enjoy the edu process and appreciate the fine customer help service but novices should be forewarned. This is sophisticated piece of gear with great potential available but not for lazy dumbos.
