Pros: Good day-to-day use lens, with good to average picture quality (compared to for example to my Panasonic Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm F2.8) but the price is also lower to other lenses so price/performance is very good and you can find one on ebay for about 200-220$ Cons: Panasonic just released the new Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42 collapsible zoom lens it is very-very small sized, price is still not available. Manufacturer description: Standard zoom interchangeable lens designed specifically for the cameras compatible with Micro Four Thirds System standard. Suitable for a wide range of scenes from portrait to landscape photography, the new LUMIX G VARIO 14-45mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S. lens offers an zoom range of 14-45mm (35mm equivalent: 28-90mm) while featuring its ultra-compact size and light weight. The aspheric lens element also improves optical performance by minimizing distortion, even at the 28mm wide end. The Lumix G VARIO 14-45mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S. lens incorporates Panasonic's Mega O.I.S. optical image stabilizer, which makes it easy to shoot super clear shots even in low-lit situations by suppressing the blur caused by a hand shake. With its minimum focus distance of 30 cm even at full zoom, the new lens provides a maximum photographic magnification of 0.34x (35mm equivalent).Read full review
This is the second 14-45mm Lumix I've purchased. Listed as Used-Like New that's exactly what I recieved. I ordered both this and the previous example to replace the 14-42 I sold with a GH2, I use one of these on a GH3 (for something more compact) and one on a Lumix GX1. This is a very good "workhorse" wide angle (28mm equivalent) to "portrait perspective" telephoto (90mm equiv). Build quality is better than the 14-42 and the zoom is much smoother. This makes a very useful general purpose lightweight lens for any micro four thirds camera.
price commensurate w/ overall performance, especially when you have expectations for lenses that only cover stops like 3.5-5.6; the lens is good in its range but not better than the more expensive pana 14-140 sibling. Conversely, the overpriced 14-140 is not far better than this 14-45 within the same zoom range. I try not to describe my dissatisfaction when it comes to indoors shootings bc this lens is rather at its peak for daytime shooting of stills. Using a flash does not solve or overcome the weakness of a narrow 3.5 aperture unless you know how to switch b/w settings; i.e. to play the shuffling game b/w shutter speed and ISO max
This is the classic much liked and sought after kit lens of the m4/3 world. Well built metal mount not plastic, nice crisp zoom action,no wobble of front lens when extended like some kit lenses. Most important it will get you a nice crisp sharp photo with very nice colors, works just as well on my Olympus M4/3 camera as on my Panasonic.Drawback is a bit bigger and longer than other kit lenses but still not that excessive, great general purpose lens you will like maybe even love. Nab one if you can they hold their value for a reason.
The lumix 14-45 mm lens is pretty smooth, sharp and a great value for the money with stabilization. Hard to beat!
