About this product

Product Information

In spite of its impressive wide-angle zoom range of 7-14mm (35mm film camera equivalent; 14-28mm), this lens is surprisingly compact and lightweight for casual on-the-go use. Taking advantage of its wide, 114-degree angle of view, it enables to fit subjects into the frame easily even when shooting indoors where the distance is limited. The world looks extraordinary when viewing through the lens, allowing photos and movies to be recorded with a uniquely rich perspective. This high-performance lens system achieves outstanding compactness by combining 16 lens elements in 12 groups, including 2 aspherical lenses and 4 ED lenses. Image resolution is high from corner-to-corner even at the wide-angle setting. Thanks to its large-diameter glass molded lens elements, it also features F4.0 brightness over the entire zoom range.7 diaphragm blades of circular aperture diaphragm give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an attractively smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings. It also features a highly reliable metal mount, and uses multi-coated lens elements that minimize ghosts and flare to further enhance its optical performance. The optimally designed lens hood is enabled to use even under strong sunlight, too.

  • 7-14mm Lumix Lens

I first used this lens when I borrowed one from a friend, and knew I had to get one for myself. Most extreme wide angle lenses tend to 'bend' or 'warp' the outer edges of the widest angle used, and although there is some slight bending it is very minor. I do a lot of video recording and still photo recording inside a museum ship that is being renovated, and the tight quarters require a lens of this nature. Everything has worked out very, very well, and would also like to add that the lens is pretty light, so it won't weigh down your camera bag. If there is one detraction it is that the front element juts out enough to cancel out any UV Filter up front. But that is just a minor fault for a lens of this type.

  • Olympus or Panasonic? Panasonic

While the comparable Olympus 7-14mm pro lens is absolutely incredible, this lens is almost as good with a lot more going for it. The build quality is not as tough (it is made with high density plastics with metal mounting) the lens weighs about half as much and is almost half as small. The pictures are just as sharp as the olympus (at some apertures it is even sharper) and is almost half the cost depending where you get it. If you need the olympus pro for personal reasons than obviously that is the go to. If you cannot determine which lens to get because the f/2.8 is not absolutely necessary then I would say your money will be better spent here.

  • I needed to shoot pictures of small rooms for Real Estate Agents.

I leave this lens at F/4 and use the Auto ISO feature on my GX8 and G7. I can make photos with no flash and have edge to edge sharpness, with great colors. I correct for the slight wide angle curvature in Photoshop CS. I bought this used on eBay and am thrilled with the value. It is light weight and solid.

  • If you have Panasonic Lumix MFT camera, and looking for wide angle, this lens is a great addition.

Very sharp wide angle MFT lens. Nice 7-14 mm range and very smooth. Fast auto focus on my Lumix G9

  • An excellent lens for anyone who needs seriously wide angle

I used to own the Olympus 7-14mm f2.8 until it was stolen. This lens is nearly as sharp, half the size, half the weight, and several hundred dollars cheaper. All with a loss of only one stop of light gathering capability. You may have read reviews about terrible purple fringing, especially when used with Olympus camera bodies. I use multiple Olympus bodies and can tell you that the purple fringing is a thing but only under very specific circumstances. If there is a bright light source or other very bright area visible in the frame. Basically, if you have blown-out highlights, no matter how small an area they might be in, you will get purple fringing around those highlights. These can be corrected in any decent photo editing program. Beyond that, image quality is very good. So while in absolute terms, the Olympus lens is genuinely better, in real-world terms, this lens runs circles around its more expensive cousin.

  • Great Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Micro 4/3

This lens is the perfect complement to my G9 to go along with the 12-60mm and 100-300mm lenses I already had. This super-wide angle zoom lens allows me to take interior room pictures in our construction projects with maximum coverage. The pictures are sharply focused and color rendition is excellent. This was the right lens at the right price for my use and purposes.

  • Excellent and compact super wide angle lens.

I sold my Olympus 7-14 and purchased the Panasonic 7-14 primarily to get a smaller lighter lens with the same focal length. While not as fast (f2.8 vs f4), the lens is very sharp.

  • A great ultra wide

I use this lens in my real estate photography business. It has a very slight barrel distortion that is easily corrected by software. It is extremely sharp and makes shooting in the often tight confines of small bathrooms a pleasure. It also makes great landscapes.

  • Great wide zoom for micro 4/3

I didn’t want to spend a lot for a good wide zoom and the Zeiss glass was just too expensive. I got the Panny wide zoom and am very happy with the sharp results. I have yet to see the purple fringing known for this lens shooting into the sun but for the price I paid I’m happy.
