Superb sharpness on this lens! Have used for portrait photography and dabbled with macro (where I think this lens really can shine). Use on Olympus evolt 510 slr. If you're a beginner, remember this is a prime lens and has no zoom (you have to move forward or back to frame your picture:) This lens is designed for four thirds photography systems. Would expect it to be a bit faster in dim light considering it's f/2.0. Overall, though a great lens--find that I keep it on my camera a lot. Makes me really wonder how great the "best" olympus lens are since this is in the "better" category (my camera came with 2 lens in the budget category and they're quite good but can clearly tell the improvement with this lens). For more thorough eval see review on www.slrgear.com.
I do a lot of macro shooting, and needed a macro lens for my Olympus E30. The wide aperture makes low light shooting at low ISO numbers more possible, to maximize detail. Lens works well with extension tube for even closer shots. Complaint -- the focusing ring runs the focusing motor and has almost no tactile feedback. The focusing works well, but I am used to old manual focus lenses. This lens is not a "normal" for the four-thirds cameras; it is a short fixed magnification telephoto lens. The "normal" lens would be a 25mm. It should work well for portraits.
Fast, beautiful bokeh, works brilliantly. I match it with the Olympus EC14 for a superb 70mm f/2.8 too. The perfect lens for a lot of portraiture and landscape work, even sports in the middle zone distance range. I use it primarily with FourThirds SLR bodies (Oly E-1 and Panny L1), but have also used it with the Panny G1 using an adapter. Only negative I can think of is that the AF can sometimes hunt a bit with this lens, particularly in low light, due to the fact that it's a macro lens and lacks a focus limiter. This doesn't bug me as I often focus manually anyway: I just turn off AF in difficult lighting situations like that and focus it myself.
This lens is a real pearl in Olympus OM collection. It's remarkably sharp at 1.2 while delivering rich and interesting bokeh, sparkling with circles. The bokeh is slightly softer than in Olympus OM 50/1.4, but still looks nothing like modern DSLR lenses can produce. This lens is also uniquely compact for such a fast aperture, making it very useful everyday lens. The only issue is price - but you should always expect unreasonably high price for a top product.
close up photos, studio work with children at daycares. great addition to my equipment, and collection of my olympus camera equipment and lens.
Love the size, this lens has very good optics and it is fast focus. good quality for the price,I have been taking pictures of squirrels ,seagulls and the quality of the pictures is really good. Buy it ,you will love it!
I've been an analogue OM-user since 1982 and have for a long time wanted the "standard-lens" with f:1.2. It was rather expensive when it came in the 80's and it is still in used condition (excellent pictures with a need of nearly no light because of the low aperture). At the moment I have elleven OM original lenses. This one was missing.
1. Compact in size compare to other name brand with similar high speed lens. 2. Lovely out of focus (bokeh) mood. 3. Sharp in focus object. 4. Natural color images. 5. Great black & white tone.
one of the best lens from olympus. good for macro and portrait photography. great color and sharpness. no problem at all. just love it!
The lens is pristine. Quite a nice purchase and a pleasant experience as well. All Olympus lenses are good, but this one is special and a good price. If you see it again, be sure to buy it.
