I bought this lens after reading quite a few reviews on line. All were positive, but this lens is no longer in production. From what I read, this lens has a better build quality and is much sharper. I haven't used the newer version but the side by side pictures that were posted do show the difference in photo quality. That plus the f2.8 through all focal lengths make this a great lens for the price.

Focusing is a little on the slower side and a bit noisy, but overall great quality.

Sharp as a pin - images are actually sharper than my Nikon 17-55 F/2.8, which is a more expensive lens, bulkier, & heavier than this Tamron. Tamron colors aren't as good as the Nikon, but this is an excellent all purpose lens & very light, compact, & easy to carry.

Got my lens used and in good shape. Pretty happy with it's performance. Auto focus is quick and responsive. Images are sharp, build quality is good. Produces good low light images. Was in Niagra falls recently and took some night photos from our hotel room. I'll included some in the photos below. Very happy with this lens.

a very good mid range lense. the optics is much better then the 17-56 cannon kit lense and the lense is wider in diameter. it has a good feeling when zooming in and out and its come with a hood to protect against glare. its compact when it in the 17mm focal lense and it is light weight. it doesnt have a stabilizer so when taking video in 55mm focal lemgth things can get fuzzy
