Great quality, easy to use high-def camcorder
I've owned an HV20 for several years and been very satisfied with the quality and ease of use of this camcorder. The only reason I'm replacing with the newer HV30 version is that my HV20 was stolen. Not really the best for low light but a great picture for daytime video. Good for shooting AND for transferring old tapes
Not many people shoot on tape any more, not even miniDV. But lots of us shot on miniDV over the years, and now need to preserve those memories on hard drives. I bought this camera less to shoot with (though it is and EXCELLENT shooting tool!) than to back up my old tapes--move them to external hard drives. Particularly since I had shot them on a Canon Vixia, it's good to use this, not just any (like Sony, etc.) miniDV camera to play them back. Our second HV 30, love it.
Have used my first HV30 since 2009. Lots of trips. Size is good, useability is good, it has served us well. However, we have had it repaired once and decided to get another, as nice as we could find, as a back up.
