The second in the series by Simon Schama continues his excellence at capturing the essence of the time period. If you want to know more about the history of Britain, and those who changed history for the better or worse, these three books are important for you to read. This particular books covers a little over 150 years, very important ones since they lead the the revolution here in this country. Schama fleshes out his characters with such detail that you feel as if you had lived at that time. Yet, he doesn't sacrifice the overall picture by doing so. These three books were part of a greater project with BBC, and well worth reading to know more about the British Empire, the creating and the dissolution of the same. Schama ranks in the top five of my favorite writers. You won't regret reading this book.Read full review
