With all the acclaim their landmark album Toxicity brought to System of a Down, it was inevitable that the tributes and homages would start rolling in sooner rather than later. Big Eye's A Tribute to a System of a Down collects covers of some of the most recognizable tracks from both Toxicity and their 1998 self-titled debut, attempting to celebrate the band's unique mix of explosive thrash metal and brooding, melodic moments. However, the versions of "Darts," "Sugar," "Chop Suey!," and "Toxicity" here just don't have the visceral and dramatic impact of the originals, no matter how much the musicians covering them respect the material they're playing. Ultimately, A Tribute to a System of a Down does neither the band nor their admirers any favors. ~ Heather Phares
