The K712 is a well built, good looking, very comfortable, and great sounding headphone. However, it doesn't follow the mainstream sound signature of elevated bass, in fact it's the exact opposite. The bass is very lean, even more so because it's an open back headphone. What you're getting is a headphone with excellent soundstage, imaging, and clarity. Some small negatives are the treble that can be harsh at times, and its inefficiency. Overall, excellent headphone that is worth its asking price.

Bought these to use for mixing and mastering away from the studio. Classic AKG sound which I love, very flat and clear, excellent detail and soundstage.

I won't attempt to describe the sound or make comparisons. There are plenty of reviews. You need to hear them, and judge for yourself, as I have. In the world of hi-fi products, people often refer to the polar extremes, 'entry level' and 'end-game'. The K712's are my endgame product. I finally sit back, totally immersed and content having obviated the need to look further.
