The Ipod is an amazing and great invention, I have around 8000 songs in one of those and keep putting more in other one. Why I bought this 80GB 5th gen Ipod? Just one very important reason: SOUND QUALITY. If you like music and have trained your ears to distinguish sound quality ( I use on eof the best earphones available: Shure SE535 with custom silver( the metal conductor inside) cables. As many ipod users I upgraded to the new classic with 160GB hard disc but immediaditely noticed a difference in sound, I wouldn't say the new ipod classic sounds bad, it sounds great for most of us, but when using premiun earphones it is easy to distinguish the differences: the 5th gen ipod has a better stereo image and separation, instruments could be heard in different spatial positions same as vocals; the lower end (bass) has more body and musicality and is pleasant to listen to it, mid and high notes are very accurate and crisp. The difference is in the digital to analog converter chip the 5th gen has a Wolfson and the latest has a Cirrus Logic, more energy effcient but the stereo image is nearly absent, the bass is not accurate mids are ok but highs are a bit overboard and do not sound natural. Now I have two of these ipods and I am really happy listening my music in them.Read full review
Feels as good as new though refurbished. I use it as a store of classical music to be played through a mobile speaker. An older generation which does not have bluetooth. Bluetooth would be desirable but it still suits my purpose well.
