Awesome guitar. Full review & play through search Youtube for p6o6dbi5dHw I bought this guitar with measured expectations given how in-expensive the guitar is. I have been playing for over 25 years and in that time I have had dozens of guitars, even now I currently have 9 other guitars including a custom made 7-string and Joe Satriani signature model. This Artist Indominus8 guitar is in my top 3. I don't know if it is because I am one of the lucky ones or the quality control is that tight but my particular guitar was flawlessly set up straight out of the box after a quick tuning. The only "blemish" is a tiny bit of over-spray of the conductive paint from the control cavity (who sees the back of a guitar?). I have always been one for "odd", custom or distinct guitars but I have to say the simplicity of the black body, smooth "black" eco-rosewood (so smooth to play) with inlays and black chrome hardware is gorgeous, the head stock is amazingly well designed, with great string spacing and weighted perfectly. I personally find this to be one of the easiest guitars in my collection to play. Despite the larger neck and my relatively small fingers I find this considerably easier to play than my custom made ARM 7-string guitar. Particularly for finger picking, jazz chords, tapping and poly-chords. Yes this will Djent but this guitar can do so much more than that, in the week I have had this guitar I have coaxed blues, grunge, prog, metal, pop and even country with relative ease. While it is no Telecaster, with the right pick attack, amp and attitude you can get close enough. Leads "sing", chords growl, there is "CHUG" and I find I even pluck and slap on the low strings for a great "bass" tone. Honestly if Artist Guitars was to ever offered to make a custom model just for me (I wish I was that famous) all I would add myself would be a 0 fret (fanned or otherwise) and factory fitted piezo pickup under the bridge with active hardware. I would love to install a piezo pickup under my bridge for acoustic tones now but don't wish to void my 3 year warranty. I suspect though that with the string spacing, ease of playing and right set up I could effectively superseded almost all my other guitars, including my acoustics. I use heavy picks and I am quite heavy handed, unintentionally playing the top string so hard I would induce fret buzz but this took little time to adjust to, so please keep that in mine if you are heavy handed like me. I have also found playing standing up more comfortable than sitting due to the neck. . . but hey who can stay seated while playing rock/metal? Keep this in mind though if you are use to sitting. In conclusion this is my first product from Artist Guitars and had very reserved expectations however this guitar has stunned me, particularly given the price. If you are tentative about getting an 8 string I would very highly recommend this one. Even if in the long run you find playing 8 strings is not for you I have found it exceptionally easy to play it as a "6 string". If Artist Guitars ever happen to read this and decide to make a model with a 0 fret (fanned or otherwise) and factory fitted piezo pickup under the bridge with active hardware please contact me (order #AG475083) and let me know :) - AndrewRead full review

The Indominus is a guitar that is severely under equipped in the electronics department. It has two very low output humbuckers that are very susceptible to interference (= very buzzy, even noticeable on clean tones). Pair the pickups with the stock strings (I didn't know you could get low output strings... now I do) that are installed on the guitar and you have a recipe for disappointment... Then there are the frets - I own 2 artist guitars and they both came with corroded/rusty frets - you have to steel wool then buff them, I used a piece of slotted thin plastic as a template to ensure I wasn't scrubbing the fretboard, it only takes 10 minutes but it's still a requirement. Of course - this is exactly what you would expect when you only pay $249, this is 1/3 the price of most entry level 8 strings and plays fairly well once you do some setup and change the strings (I am rocking 9-65 but I think a slightly heavier bottom end would be better). Well, from there you just have to do it - buy some decent pickups, I installed a used EMG 808 ($50 from Ebay) in the bridge and after upgrading all the electronics and shielding the cavities I found the stock neck pickup just passable for the odd bit of clean tapping so left it as is (for now). Guitar is useable now, one high fret to fixup next string change but it's fun to play and sounds good - amazing if you consider the price point. Well worth purchasing if you are any way inclined to muck around cleaning and levelling frets/swapping electronics. Not recommended for a beginner or someone that isn't confident stripping a guitar down and pulling it's guts out. If that is you, buy an Ibanez RG or similar.Read full review

For the price tag on it i didnt expect the best quality but i was surprised by how good it actually is. Very lightweight, holds tune well, fun to play. The pickups arent the best quality but still plays good. Perfect for a beginner to start out on or great for those, like myself, that want to give an 8 string a go. Its a lot of fun and i will definitely be upgrading soon :)

Ive been playing for 25 years, 6/7 and now 8 string acoustic and electric. I bought this initially to see if the 8 string felt right so didnt want to spend a lot.I was surprised with the feel and action, amazing for the price. The only let down are the pick ups, they are no EMGs however EMGs are worth alot more than $250 for 8-string PUs. Overall you wont get better than this for the price, plays well, and the pickups are not terrible, just dont sound as full as EMGs etc..
