I enjoyed reading Bad Boys. I believe Ferguson takes an emic stance by interpreting her data from and ‘insider’s’ or ‘native’s’ perspective. At times, though, I felt that her work emanated from a sympathetic perspective on the part of the boys. Still a good read, though, I encourage all educators to engage in discussion after reading this book.
An excellent book about a topic that troubles many, but few have examined it with such commitment and honesty as Ferguson. What is happening to urban African American boys? I read this book for my coursework in urban education - a must for anyone who plans to work with urban youth.
