Additional information
A collection of blues legends should be unquestionably definitive, which makes one wonder why Brewers Droop with Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler and the good but not legendary Paul Orta, Jo Ann Kelly, and Tommy Tucker are included. Having said that, this is probably the best of all the Boxsets blues compilations, and while a long way from being essential, it has better material overall than their other double CDs. Highlights include Muddy Waters doing "She's Nineteen Years Old," Louisiana Red with "Lightnin' Bug," the immortal "Somebody Loan Me a Dime" by Fenton Robinson, "Try to Quit You Baby" from Buddy Guy, and John Lee Hooker's "Black Man Blues." Other notable tracks are by Joe Carter, Junior Wells, Mississippi Fred McDowell (with Kelly), Big Joe Williams, Earl Hooker, Sunnyland Slim, and Matt "Guitar" Murphy -- all legends in their own right. Even Peter Green's "Post Modern Blues" is a quality track worthy of "legend" status. More better blues, less filler on this offering. ~ Michael G. Nastos
