This is my first DSLR. I bought a point/shoot (panasonic TZ4) four years ago, and I wanted to take the process of taking photos to the next level. I like the build quality, shutter speed, ISO range and overall look and feel of the camera. Though I heard this is a discontinuing model from Canon, I don't think there will be any major improvements in coming models in this entry-level range. Touchscreen is good and definitely an advantage. Ever since I bought this camera, all my research was devoted to study various lens options rather than what the camera actually has to offer, which in a sense is what you want. I bought this to photograph my little girl in her first years. As I started to photograph, I sensed a need for lenses with faster apertures and sharper images, so the kit lens soon became less useful for me in low light. However, it does its job outdoors. Believe me, a DSLR, even a basic one like this made my old point/shoot look like a kid's toy. Thats what I sensed when I tried to take photos with my TZ4, after I bouth Canon. Perfect for the amateur who is looking at expanding his/her range of photography skills. The weight is quite well balanced as compared to my previous 1000D. Also the new processor is quite handy for AF during video-shooting.Picture clarity is brilliant so also the new touch-screen features. The vari-angle screen is also a great feature.
This is a great camera and has been easy to use for me as a first time DSLR owner. I have been using it mostly for video and have found that the included lens has performed well in all my shooting conditions.
Excellent camera, easy to use.
