I bought this camera because I follow kenrockwell.com and also I know that Canon has the best optics in point and shoot cameras. The images are effortlessly great on auto and if you know how to use the manual settings flexible to your requirements. I have not yet worked out what I don't like about this camera. I call it my handbag camera to have on hand whenever an emergency requires but usually I use a Nikon SLR for my photographic needs. Read the kenrockwell.com review on this camera for a balanced report. It takes pictures without a flash at low light with great clarity, providing the subject is not moving of course. It is very easy to setup and use the manual settings without even reading the manual.
great carry anywhere camera that takes great pictures even in dim lit places without the use of it's flash. Has controls similar to DSLR's, can shoot in RAW, its got everything. Love it!
The last of the compact digital cameras that Canon made with the CCD sensor instead of the cmos sensor newer models come with. This camera excels in low light conditions. Made of high quality metal and very easy to hold. Very compact and a bit smaller than the S110 which I sold to buy the S95!!! Picture quality is excellent and as I say, very good in low light. Video is HD (720p).
Purchased primarily as a camera to fit in my bike rising jersey pocket as my mobile phone can't expose a scene to save itself. The s95 is very compact and plenty lightweight for my above stated purpose. Exposes well in aperture priority mode. Having never used a Canon P&S before (only Nikon dSLR's) the menus and function buttons/rings are now quite seemless and 2nd nature to adjust on the run. Battery life is good, the rear LCD review screen is quite well illuminated but I do miss a mirrored viewfinder. The IS (image stabiliser) actually works on this camera so i keep the ISO close to base as noise is an issue in particualr in shadowed parts of the scene which is to be expected considering there is 10MP crammed onto a tiny sensor. Only used hand held, deals with high contrasting scenes fairly well, colour reproduction is excellent, even reds are very acurate. After 100+ exposures I'd confidently say 95% of my images are keepers, being nice and sharp, well saturated with not too many blown highlights with the camera exposing the scene to my requirements on most exposures.Read full review
This S95 model is a pocket sized DSLR. It should be on top of your list if you want a DSLR-like compact camera.
