A must-read book on income distribution and living standards over 240 years
This book is one of the most important contributions to the economics literature in several decades. It tackles the key issues of economic growth, the distribution of income and wealth, and standards of living in many countries since the Industrial Revolution in the late 18th century. It incorporates groundbreaking research covering the past 240 years and is a "must-read" for anyone interested in understanding current economic issues. The GFC has not yet ended: the global economy remains mired in the 21st century's first financial crisis, a crisis likely to last for many more years. Policy-makers around the world are almost clueless as they search for ways through the mire. This book gives the context for what is going on and why the problems seem intractable. It provides some of the possible answers with controversial suggestions for those in power. All in all, Piketty's book is a lively, informative and challenging read for the intelligent reader.Read full review
